Not to minimize the transphobia, but how the fuck do you write a mystery novel that's 900 pages long? How could you possibly keep a mystery interesting for that long?

I mean, you can in high concept Sci-Fi by starting with, say, a murder and ending with a grand 100,000 year adventure to reform the nature of math and its interface with Theology, but even something like The Three Body Problem can get it done in 400 and Arrival takes a fairly short Novella.

Me and my parents agreed to stop reading me the Harry Potter series after the second one because it was boring as fuck but from what I fuzzily remember JK Rowling's writing style is to just diarrhea as many pages out as possible even if it wasn't adding to the story for whatever reason (and as far as I know it only got worse)

Rowling takes worldbuilding to Stephen King extremes but page after page never reveals anything but hackneyed imitations from better fantasy worlds.

There is literally nothing in Harry Potter besides quidditch which hasn't been written by a better writer.

that's terrible and i'm so sorry that happened to you. it might be helpful in processing it to type it out as if you were going to post it here, but going into it with the knowledge that you don't actually have to post it. making yourself phrase something as if you were telling it to people can help you make sense of it in another way and that can be very valuable, at least from my experience. you're strong and you'll get through this and i truly wish you all the best ✊

sometimes it feels like the only thing that brings comfort these days is the everyday more certain confidence of how much we need marxism-leninism and how it might be the only thing possible of saving this planet

I just learned I was raised in a pro-slavery cult.

The Southern Baptist Convention were historically anti-abolitionists.
