Absolute cum stain of a film, ruined an already brutally stupid premise set up by TFA. Eat my whole ass hexbear, I’m not going to hitch my ride to this shit because it tripped half way into making a good point with some vaguely sucdem rhetoric.

Just trash all around, its sequel was king trash only because this bullshit laid the groundwork for trash. A fucking structural engineer had to design a solid trash foundation for that steaming pile of shit ROS. Most boring movie I’ve seen in theaters. 3+ hours of diahrrea o stg if i see another post praising this movie I’m going to eat my shit. Shape the fuck up, this movie sucks.

Star Wars should've ended with Return of the Jedi. The entire franchise should've just been three movies and a bunch of novels and videogames.

The prequels can stay. They gave us good memes and the Plinkett reviews.

Some of the strangest movies ever made imo. I wish I could go back in time and see the midnight premiere of The Phantom Menace.

Cuz whatever people at the time thought that movie was gonna be in relation to the original trilogy, I don't think they expected...that.

Tbf I kind of just look at it as like 50 years of star wars, which is way worse

I'm so fucking annoyed with star wars making it so difficult to get people to watch Andor.

The dirge in the last episode makes me feel emotions. Feels like real solidarity, real people, real pain I've shared before, and real outrage stemming from that pain.

They should just do what I did and pirate that shit lmao

Great show though; by far the best Star Wars-adjacent piece of media I've seen.

The problem is getting them to believe there's good new Ster Wors worth watching.

It wasn’t “good”, it’s blockbuster slop. I didn’t mind some of its ideas though, trying to take Star Wars away from “hey everything important that happens in this galaxy with a trillion trillion beings living in it revolves around this one family”. And then the 3rd sequel shat on that from a great height lol.

There was some cool looking stuff. The hoth remix with the red salt was cool. When the admiral blows up the whole fleet is cool. The lightsaber blowing up. I even thought the sequence where Luke “comes back” was kinda dope. However it also had some terrible action stuff like the horse race scene or whatever. And the plot was a contrived afterthought.

all that being said the sequels taken as a whole are a disgrace and this makes up a third of that disgrace so it’s hard to say it’s good, lol. It’s better than RoS by an order of magnitude, but that is literally one of the worst films I’ve ever seen.

I really don’t think so lol. The first five minutes of RoS is all the characters saying “hey the last movie didn’t happen, palpatine’s back, time to go on a quest for the 7 maguffins”. It’s not like JJ followed up any of the stuff TLJ was railroading the plot towards.

counterpoint: the bit where they hyperdrive 9/11 the imperial fleet looked fuckin sick. like when Kirby flies the dragoon in Subspace Emissary (high point of both video games & cinema)

So you admit Rise of Skywalker is worse then? Cuz it totally is, no contest. I'd argue that shit is worse than The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones.

Is that the one where they had to edit out that elite guard's weapon out of his hands in post because he killed Rey in the final battle

Idk i think the plot is okay but they really went too far when they put a blue haired sjw in charge of that ship in the world where a giant slug mafia leader is tossing its enemies in the mouth of a giant underground plant, i mean, its not too realistic.

The more the movie is analyzed, the more it crumbles apart, even after it is rubble.

The time passage didn't make sense either. If I remember correctly the "chase" in space is taking place over a few hours, but Rey is training on the planet for days. This wouldn't be an issue, except her and Kylo keep talking to eachother through the force multiple times.

RJ really was the perfect guy to hand an established franchise and mangle it, by trying to be clever in surprising fans with scrambled up themes and character motivations. That can work if you understand your source material, but it clearly plays out like someone who wanted to mock fans and make a different movie.

I remember liking it when I first left the theater, but it really has collapsed utterly under scrutiny.

I will give him credit that when he isn't trying to "subvert expectations" he actually is a competent film maker. Sure things in Looper don't make sense but I still enjoyed the movie. I loved Knives Out and Glass Onion is alright. His presumably cancelled trilogy might have been better if he was able to write everything from the beginning.

While I don't think he intended to troll the Star Wars fanbase, it seems he felt he had a better understanding of Star Wars than he actually had. Heck he kills Ackbar off screen despite the character's popularity. He loves misdirection and lamp-shading so much that he didn't respect the source material. It feels like such a weird take on Star Wars as part of a personal film making experiment. He does call attention to the MIC of Star Wars, but the series is supposed to be a struggle of clearly defined good and evil. Making the waters a bit muddy is actually doing the franchise a bit of a disservice as it is supposed to be primarily science fantasy instead of science fiction. It's sort of like asking ethical questions about the Pokemon universe about the enslavement and organized dog-fighting of Pokemon like Black-White did. It just kind of kneecaps the story by pointing out a major unresolved problem with what are supposed to be the protagonists.

The original trilogy didn't bring to light how and where the Rebel Alliance got all of their weapons and ships. It simply didn't matter when the opponent was the Empire. Raising the issue in TLJ as well as the concept of a "grey jedi" sort of betrays the appeal of what is supposed to be a mainline Star Wars film that is a swashbuckling space adventure about fighting against fascist family with friends you trust.

There is supposed to be a romance and escapism that the main story lives in. The expanded universe can flesh things out more for people who want more context. The funny thing with the TLJ is that it hasn't generated much discussion about what was in the film like Rian had hoped. Instead, the discussion has been about why the film was the way it was.

If I didn’t love you I would tell you to shut the fuck up and not be blind for 3 whole minutes. I’m convinced none of you have seen this movie and are just trying to be contrarian. I am the only person on this site to have seen three hours of this shit, yeah? You all ditched the theater to post about how great this movie is and I had to go out and actually see it.

None of you actually saw it, none of you know who the characters are or what a light sword or w/e is, you just saw a SHITE movie and thought ‘what the hell, fuck the right I fucking love this steaming pile of trash lmao’.
