His fucking follow-up is just like 'He misdated when the bourgeoisie started funding Hitler, claims it was a party created by the bourgeoisie (fair, it wasn't, but it's structures and relevancy was created by the bourgeoise) and misattributes why Hitler started the military build-up (citations needed) and then claims a lack of citations from Parenti (in the intro, where there rarely are any citations because the whole point is to go over what you intend to prove throughout the book.)

I swear to God, PhD students have to be some of the dumbest motherfuckers in existence sometimes. Simultaneously too nitpicky and too vague in his criticisms.

Sure, I'd love to sacrifice countless hours of thankless busywork, my health, and mental wellbeing for a cool hat and an illusory boost to my ego.

the critical skills developed by the process of earning a PhD are

      • the ability to start public speaking without knowing what you are going to say and possibly talking for several minutes without saying anything noteworthy
      • to participate in the Q and A portion of a presentation by starting with " i don't have a question, it's more of a comment..." while pretending not to notice all the other attendees immediately groan

Damn, "Geisterkrieg" typed in some Germanic-type font has some issues with Blackshirts & Reds. SMH I guess I have no choice but to believe him

Over the past 20+ years: ML (ish/not really cause I was 17 and it doesn’t really count)-> Orthotrot -> crypto-Orthotrot in a Cliffite sect-> Marxist (no adjectives)

    You are way too online.

How does it work to go from openly "orthotrot"(whatever that means) to a "crypto orthotrot"?

Did they do entryism against that trot org or some shit?

Maybe they hide their trotyness when they found out how much people make fun of them.

The old forms of the left are moribund and the new forms are stupid. We're making a podcast that talks about the need to organize a dialectical pessimism and develop a Marxist salvage project capable of putting up a good fight as the world burns around us. A clean, honest, and unsentimental melancholy is required; we've cultivated one and would like to share it with you.

    Cool.

Honestly Parenti leaves himself wide open to this kind of criticism in BS&R. It is poorly cited, especially the first chapter, and he does make specious claims that are hard to verify.

I love :parenti: don't get me wrong and the text does have a particular kind of rhetorical value, but if leftists uphold BS&R as some sort of standalone own of the Western hegemonic perspective we leave ourselves pretty open for being discredited as not serious.

I've always taken BS&R to be a polemic more than one of his more serious works. It's why I probably like it the most.
