Minnesota Democrats are like an alternate universe where the Democrats actually know how to function and work as a political party
On paper they're the Democratic Farmer Labor party and nominally distinct from the rest of the Democrats.
They're not universally good. Jacob Frey, the mayor of Minneapolis during and since George Floyd's Murder, is a cop boot licking little shit, widely hated in the city, and in the way of anything good happening. Klobuchar, of stapler throwing fame, is one of the DFL senators.
That’s local and national though. Walz has his issues but the state level has been a breathe of fresh air. The first time I’ve ever seen democrats go on the offensive and do good things that are also popular with any sense sense of urgency instead of pissing their pants about backlash

Turns out the moderate dems in Minnesota said we’d rather side with the progressives than the Republicans and that is the wildest part to me.
All this comes from a lot of street level activism. The local democrats are still a bunch of shitheads. Omar voted against the rail union strike, Klobuchar of stapler throwing fame is one of Minnesota's senators. Keith Ellison is probably one of the most progressive DAs in the country, which just means that he's one of the least-bad cops.
Also made captive audience meetings illegal, which are those forced anti union company presentations.

It's a fairly average European Social Democratic program, but I guess it being done in the United States political climate is impressive.

The 2020 uprising happened when George Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis. Minneapolis is still very mobilized about a lot of local issues. The Nurses unions have been having yearly or bi yearly strikes over working conditions and patients safety in the hospitals for as long as I can remember. There's currently a fight brewing over re-building the burned down 3rd precinct. All the bullshit going on in the Dakotas and Iowa and Wisconsin is very immediate to most Minnesotans.
Lots of people are very angry and this is happening because of years and decades of organization. Plus Wisconsin is right across the border and the only thing Minnesotans love more than being self-righteous parochial shits about how great their state is, is being better than Wisconsin. That alone will motivate them to keep moving.

There's currently a serious conflict brewing in Minneapolis over re-building the 3rd precinct. No one who lives in the 3rd precinct wants another cop station built to replace the one that was destroyed during the uprising, but the city is trying to force it through because Monopoly on Violence. I don't live there anymore so I have no idea how things are shaping up, but it's noisy enough to show up on facebook every once in a while. Hopefully people will hold the line and keep the cops out. A referendum to disband the police department and replace it with something else came within six points of passing a few years ago, people do not like the Minneapolis PD.
We just won control the state supreme court in the April election, because the left-leaning candidate just explicitly said "Yes, I will absolutely overturn the 1849 abortion ban." which sent judicial nerds into a fucking tizzy. They were mad, they were malding, the fascist judge candidate got WIPED FUCKING CLEAN and lost by ELEVEN POINTS in a nearly 50/50 state. He went out crying like a little bitch on TV (skip to 4 mins)
They will also fix the gerrymandered maps that the Republicans have drawn since the post-Obummer blowout in 2010. After consistently losing the popular vote, the Republicans have held not just majorities in the state legislature but almost supermajorities, and they have TRIPLE the federal representation, again after getting less than 49% of the vote. Our democracy is rated lower in many indices than the DR Congo.
Now the very activated left-leaning majority in Wisconsin is going to get a clean majority in the legislature a few years from now, and we're sandwiched between the three most shining examples of state Democrats actually doing (?!?!) something, in Minnesota, Michigan, and Illinois.
We recently reelected our Democratic governor, even though he's rizzless, ya know he just seems like a nice man, and the Republican guy seemed like a real jerk. That'll do it in Wisconsin. He's gonna help overturn all the crazy shit, and maybe with the help of the newly left-leaning supreme court, he'll get the rest of his actual gubernatorial powers that Scott Walker and the state congress quickly erased from the governor's position after he ate shit in the election, during his lame duck period. Yes you heard that right, we voted in a new governor so the last governor just deleted half of his powers before the guy we voted in could take power.

Minnesota is usually the good one, Wisconsin is usually the bad one, and Michigan is trying to steal both of those titles at the same time.
Democratic Farmer Labor is the only faction of the Democratic Party I somewhat support.
They are not formally a part of the Democratic Party, and make a big deal out of occasionally endorsing moderate Republicans if they are good enough. So different category not covered by this statement.
But they also made a lot of questionable calls the last few election cycles. So even for electoralism, not great.
One organizer from WFL got in touch with me and even offered to knock on doors for free when I was running as a Bernie dem. I turned her down, which I think was a mistake, but I still appreciated the gesture. They seem like nothing but a bunch of fucking Warren democrats these days though.
First is the amazing level of leftwing activist energy and organizing effort coming out of Minneapolis. Second is the ability of the Democratic Farmer Labor party to actually function as a coherent political party and vent that energy into concessions.
While the first point is impressive its not unique. Other cities of the US can produce comparable leftwing energy but local democrats would either squander it or actively stomp it out. I dont think theres anything like the DFL anywhere else in the US.
