Imagine caring about League in 2023 or ever. But for real, I hope the players wring every single penny out of the women-harassing fart-in-people's-faces dudebros at Riot.

It's really such bad game design. Fundamentally.

In FPS deathmatches if your teammate sucks, you might lose but not necessarily - if you kick ass hard enough you will either win, or you'll lose with an impressive KDR and everyone knows you're cool.

In MOBAs, if your teammate sucks you literally become weak too. And everyone depends on each other. And everyone has to use vibes to figure out if they're supposed to dive or run. And you are TRAPPED IN THAT GAME for at least 15 minutes, probably a lot longer, and the whole time you are not performing well because the enemy is now extremely buffed.

It's the perfect environment for being a piece of shit. It's begging people to be pieces of shit.,

The problem is, that it's the very same design that gives it both incredible highs and lows. Other games, you win some, you lose some, it's alright. In MOBAs you lose and get dragged through the dirt with 4 other miserable human beings berating you for 20 minutes or you can come together as a team, magically cohere to a unit and pull out some amazing shit to win.

What these games need beyond anything is a way to create teams, groups, friendships that have roughly the same mindset and where toxicity is just highly discouraged. My experience with premade groups was infinitely better than with randoms. I used to play with a Lebanese stack of friends who would meet up at a LAN cafe and let me join if they needed a filler and we just had a blast, even when we lost.

On the other hand this allows for much greater complexity and thus skill expression than in fps, i personally like it, i have been playing for years and i have never been toxic to anyone so im sure its possible to have a healthy attitude to the game, i think the problem is with the culture surrounding it, it is very tolerant of toxicity and even finds it funny, so i think if the culture were changed to one intolerant of toxicity then toxicity would become much less prevalent

Cod does that too, sorta - once you start winning you start getting "I win" buttons, and it snowballs. It's like monopoly for videogames.

Well, that sort of makes sense because CoD is the most toxic FPS by a country mile.

Riot just delayed the start of LCS by two weeks and is putting pressure on the top teams: "... we would be prepared to cancel the entire LCS summer season. Carrying this forward, if the LCS summer season is canceled, this will also eliminate LCS teams qualifying for 2023 Worlds."

LCS teams hate going to worlds, since they get mega embarassed and exposed every time they play someone who outside North America.

Do NA pros still pretend they have a chance at Worlds? Last time I checked, NA was already a retirement home for washed up EU/KR pros and a stepping stone for NA players who want to pivot towards being an esports content creator/commentator. Riot already showed favoritism for what is essentially a glorified wildcard region, not that I particularly care since Riot sucks anyways.

Will read! Is Richard Lewis ok now? I always remember his vanishing from casting after he choked somebody out :chris-rocked:

Didn't he had articles with Breitbart for a while? Or am I confusing him with another cringey Brit?

I have no idea - I followed his substack, and my understanding is that he's only been doing this. Never read any Brietbart, or heard of his casting career

I just checked Breitbart, and yep, he had written articles there before. (Not going to link to that bullshit website, but it's there if you search for his name). His last article with them was also over 7 years ago on April 18, 2016. Here's some tl;dr Twitter thread that he wrote about his time there. Here's Hasan calling him out and him being awfully defensive about it.

Lewis is lying about sticking exclusively to esports at Breitbart. This can be seen by some of the articles he wrote there with charming titles like "Campus Crazies at Oberlin Cry Cultural Appropriation Over Canteen Menu" and "Feminists Form Facebook Group to Name and Shame Men Who Insult Them."

The twitter thread is literally just him using social media to name and shame people who have insulted him.

That and insisting basically every person who has ever interacted with him in multiple different scenes over several decades is lying about him.

Everyone lying about him is just a recurrent natural phenomenon so obviously you can discount out of hand the multiple people who witnessed him choke a guy. Hey I wonder why he is so concerned about women speaking up about abusers?

Lewis is lying about sticking exclusively to esports at Breitbart.

If I had Breitbart on my resume I would say that I wrote 50 articles about how the Ku Klux Klan is cool and based and the African skull shape is inferior, because that's somehow less embarrassing than working at Breitbart to write about esports.

Lewis is a pretty decent journalist in E-sports spaces, if nothing else because most other E-sports journalists are freaks and/or toadies who just repeat press releases. Richard Lewis the person is a repulsive, vindictive and whiny little manchild who hurts his own credibility every time he tweets. It's honestly the same thing with Thorin, except thorin is somehow more thinskinned than both Lewis and Trump.

        Thorin

Oh that racist asshole is still around? "Uh acktually calling Regi an ape isn't racist because Regi is Asian not Black."

          ·

Yeah that ape comment is only ever gonna age worse and worse. Oh yeah and Thorin used to have his twitter set to auto-block people who tweet the word "feminism", which is legit one of the funniest things about him, and the L's he keep stacking. Also the fact that he got cucked by the fact that Froskurinn was a mega-lesbian, and then got catfished immediately after, when it turned out that the woman he had been interacting with on twitter (and who had quite a lot of articles published which he collaborated on i think) was in fact just a guy who used a fake name/picture.
