I just hate streamers in general. If they’re going to close the borders and deport immigrants, they should at least forcefully transfer all twitch streamers with more than 100,000 subscribers to the countryside for 10 years.

I read somewhere once that any streamer with a regular audience of at least 12 viewers is within the top 1% of all steamers, so you may have to lower your subsriber threshold a bit

It does depend a little bit. I do art streams for clients sometimes, so it'll rarely be more than half a dozen people, because usually only the client and a few others would ever be interested in seeing it. A lot of streaming content isn't intended for a mass audience and would probably skew the results a little bit.

Getting my science education from bitter transphobe kraut, my news from youtube algorithm bearded pogface man, my entertainment from cracker screaming slurs, and my media analysis from off-the-clock cliff-notes contributor dragging a plot summary into a four-hour-long video

Not to discount how much cognitive disease these internet weirdos are spreading, but when I was a kid I'd listen to Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell every night on a portable radio. It was probably even more severe brain rot, with stories about Area 51 aliens or how to deal with hauntings in your garage. I used to believe it was all real and I'd end up a psychic or something someday.

Brainrot media has always existed, there's just more of it now and it's more easily accessed. Back when I was a kid you had to go to a convention or learn how to operate a ham radio, but it was all the same thing. Go look around Usenet forums from the 80s too

I forgot how old I was lol, it seems like everybody 20-30 years old around me gets their main source of information about the world from reddit or youtube nowadays...

I used to have a hip radio when i worked nights that played coast to coast, but it was with George Noory. A lot of fun nights stocking shelves to the weirdest stories told around a campfire.

I'm happy I've never watched a second of his content even though youtube loves to shove him into all my recommended video lists.

not that asmongold was ever a particularly bright or literate gamer-gulag but jesus christ i think he's moving backwards. this isn't even a case of media literacy, this is a case of literacy literacy. the actual literal text of metal gear solid has always been political.

MGS fans play 100 hours of Hideo Game and their only takeaways are “wow media bad, politicians bad, technology scary”

Yeah the politics were really in the background when Hideo Kojima made BB look like Che in Peace Walker and the literal Sandinistas call him "El Che" in passing.

What do these nerds think politics are? When a black person exists and has gender? When a woman isn't wearing a bikini?

Put G*mers in gulags with the Tim and Eric internette skit but instead of it being the internet on a disc it's just one game that loops for infinity that's a busty anime girl saying white people are still in charge into the camera. It's the humane thing to do to them.

without hideo in charge i'm legitimately worried about changes to the writing, but for the complete opposite reasons as this streamer idiot. like i'm p sure hideo is either a trotskyist or an anarchist but mgs3 was never about how evil the soviets were, the main badguy is explicitly rogue and acting without the USSR's backing or detailed knowledge. America is essentially forced into cleaning up the mess because their agent, The Boss, stole american nukes (davy crockett recoilless rifles) to give to the badguy after she defected. (of course, spoilers ensue and nothing is as simple as it seems) but in today's political climate i could easily see a less principled team trying to shoehorn in some messages about how evil russians are and especially how evil the soviet communists were.

How are so many greasy weird misanthrope streamer guys so popular? Do their audiences see themselves reflected? Is it like a Dark Side Phil thing where it's entertaining how pathetic they are?

He's some kind of utterly disgusting man who eats nothing but Whataburger and roast beef. He lives in actual squalor in a mold infested house despite being a millionaire. I also don't know how true this is because I don't know medicine, but apparently he has multiple signs of having scurvy or severe vitamin deficiency.

Absolute trainwreck of a human and an indictment against "streamer" as a profession
