She's right to be against the genocide, but claiming "this conflict is THOUSANDS of years old" doesn't make any sense. Zionism got its start in the late 19th century

She's just a lib who is trying her best. You can tell because she thinks signing petitions is a meaningful action.

Settler colonialism isn't a topic they would normally oppose unless they see 100s of examples of children bleeding out.

Much easier for them to understand it as a holy war where one side went overboard than understanding Zionism as the modern incarnation of manifest destiny or lebensraum.

Well as the other reply says, I guess some people only think shit like fascism died off with ww2 and don't think much of settler colonialism. To them its bewildering that other fascist groups exist other than nazis and they pursue lebensraum.

"Vegan" Zionists are unfortunately not as uncommon as you'd think...

I can't imagine the type of mindset it takes to think that Palestinians are less worthy of life then animals.

I notice that, believe it or not, sometimes veganism attracts the "facts and logic" kind of people who can come to somewhat of a principled, philosophical understanding as to why they should support veganism by thinking it out for a bit, but in that thought process, they forget that veganism is also fundamentally rooted in opposing oppression systemically. It's not a coincidence that radical animal liberation orgs tend to be explicitly leftist or even simply that leftism and veganism oftentimes go hand-in-hand.

Liberal Zionists are, very often, the insufferable trendy kind that think they're smarter than everyone else because they have a subscription to the New York Crimes.

The first big-ish vegan YouTuber I stumbled across turned out to be misogynistic and transphobic. Like, way more than the average Westerner. It was kinda jarring after most of the vegans I'd met IRL, all but one of whom were lovely.

I feel like if you're going to eat meat, you should be up for at least trying dog meat. Otherwise how can you justify your dietary habits? What makes dogs special?

It's not like massive unaddressed contradictions is anything new for liberals though.

I started dubbing this mentality "dognitive dissonance."

            That's quite good

I was semi-active in some animal liberation circles and the amount of Zionists and "centrists" ("noo don't cut XYZ off, they are a good activist, can't we put politics aside???") is disgusting. But while it has its heart in the right place opposing animal commodification, vegan activism has always been thoroughly lib, so not exactly surprising.

You joke, but George Martin of an Instagram page titled "carnism_debunked" has effectively unironically made this argument:

        [CW: Islamophobic "Vegan" Zionist Garbage]

if one is sabotaging Israeli activists and their activism due to Israeli attitudes and government actions, shouldn't the same be said of Palestine and the backward attitude of many Palestinians towards animals and human rights issues?

Only in a very loose sense: that is to say, this is but one attempt of many by various empires to control Palestine. However, the present iteration goes back no earlier than 1882, so when people say that the conflict is ‘ancient’, they’re implying that Jews and Palestinians have been fighting each other for millennia, which is utterly laughworthy.

the only reason i know about him is he did a debate about veganism with funny-clown-hammer and asked him if he was consistent and if in his stance that since there was no ethical consumption under capitalism he thought it was perfectly moral to consume child porn too and funny-clown-hammer said he thought that it definitely wasnt immoral which got clipped like a bazillion times
