Peterson was arrested in Broward County after a 15-month investigation found he “refused to investigate the source of the gunshots, retreated during the active shooting while victims were being shot and directed other law enforcement who arrived on scene to remain 500 feet away from the building,”

"Scot Peterson’s inaction and the misinformation he provided to law enforcement officers had a dire impact on the children and adults who died or were injured on the third floor of the 1200 Building," Pryor said in his statement. "He stood by, leaving an unrestricted killer to spend 4 minutes and 15 seconds wandering the halls at leisure — firing close to 70 rounds and killing or injuring ten of the 34 children and educators who bore the brunt of the massacre."

If they found this guy guilty, that would set a precedent for charging and convicting all of the Uvalde police Dept

Apparently Uvalde residents voted overwhelmingly to keep the governor even though he refused to take responsibility or have the police take responsibility jesse-wtf

If we abolish the police then how will they protect us?

Look if we're gonna pretend that's what they're for, can we at least make them do it sometimes? Ever?

Then nobody would want to be a cop!

They do do it sometimes. This year we had the Louisville bank shooter, the Tennessee private school shooter, the Texas outdoor mall. But I think it's not really the fact that they're cops that makes them willing to risk their lives to protect. It's more about their individual conviction and training. There are cowards and abuser who happen to be cops. There are otherwise decent (ACAB) people who happen to be cops.

"We got our life back after 4 ½ years ... and being able to put the truth out of what happened," Peterson told reporters outside court. "It's been an emotional roller coaster for so long."

You got your life back? It's a shame that [redacted].

Teachers who's job description has nothing to do with dying for children: Regularly use their bodies as human shields during mass shootings to protect children

Pigs for whom the national mythology is that they are heroes who will put their lives on the line for others: do fucking nothing during mass shootings.

The worst part is that Broward County law enforcement has a pistol range at Markham Park and they are there at least once a week doing drills and training.

Then they sit behind their cars and cower when shit gets real

Interesting typo in the final paragraph...

"His inaction contributed to the pain of our entire community, and we don't understand how this jury looked at the evidence that was presented and found him hot guilty," he told reporters outside court.

For some reason this reminds me of that school shooting survivor that married the much older cop that worked as a resource officer at her high school

It’s actually a teenage movie theater mass shooting survivor who married the cop who she initially contacted to cope with trauma

      Show

I’m not one to look down at trauma bonding but… this is a cop we’re talking about. Not exactly the most ingenuous people when it comes to power dynamics

Yea that's the guy I'm thinking of, there were articles that also talked about him being the resource officer at her high school. That whole situation is beyond fucked

Unrelated, but the FBI sent MLK letters saying he was a coward and should be ashamed enough to kill himself. Of course that was absurd in that instance.

    In that instance.

Really love the precedent so that the only resource officers who are actually going to try to stop mass shootings are chuds with Punisher fantasies

A doctor and fireman’s job is to save people’s lives, and if someone unfortunately still dies in the middle of their mission, it makes sense to not charge them with anything.

But when your entire purpose is to kill a threat to protect children, and not only did they still die, but you went out of your way to make sure that you don’t save them - that just sounds like homicide through negligence and laziness.

also doctors absolutely do get sued for malpractice. even if you take any of the premises of policing at face value, the fact that there isn't even a possibility of malpractice for cops is telling.

Sooo what's the point of having a school security officer if he doesn't have to stop a mass shooting? thonk

I think about this often as well. It really puts me in a sort of bleak rage thinking kids and young people just have a cop around campus to make them feel bad or get them on petty charges. Cops just act as muscle for students who get out of line. Schools shouldn’t have bouncers.
