Anything any democrat says ever can be rephrased as “we have no choice but to become fascist”

So, Murphy was one of the champions of the Affordable Care Act (and notably never any sot of universal healthcare). His idea of economic populism is probably just corporate subsidies.

This tweet is absolute dogshit, but ngl, expecting a CT senator to support universal healthcare is awfully hopeful, given that Hartford is the insurance capital of the country.

You're from Connecticut!?!?!?! Social conservatism loses by 20 points! Literally your only job is to not be socially conservative

Being from CT there's a good chunk of chunk of "socially liberal, fiscally conservative" types. We're in the top 5 (or at least nearly top 5) states that voted for Biden, and yet our Democratic governor just barely won his first term in 2018, solely because the GOP candidate didn't paint himself as a social conservative. Don't know a lot on the guy and I'm sure he's a fascist underneath, but I remember he tweeted for pride month and said he supports Roe V Wade. If he were as openly bigoted as Trump or DeSantis? Mf would've lost a lot harder

"Socially conservative, fiscally liberal" people? Don't know a single one here

Yeah at one point a reporter on Twitter was like "dude you literally told me you couldn't decide if you should run as a Democrat or a republican" to stefanowski

I feel like Stefanowski isn't EVEN slightly different than Lamont. What were even the points of contention? I could easily see Lamont as a Connecticut Republican too, it's not like he's anywhere remotely a progressive socdem. He reminds me very much of Mitt Romney tbh, both known for being rich too

Yeah after 5 years of campaigning you'd think that'd be an easy question to answer. Just bizarre. They know social conservatism has no legs so the only attack is taxes and budget . lamont cut taxes and ran a surplus every year so it just landed flat. Dems are all rich as hell so the only move is to call him a trump guy which he just clearly wasn't

Also, crazy story, I was debating mentioning this or how many details to include because I'm trying not to doxx myself but it's too relevant not to:

I go to uconn, and I almost dated a pretty bougie liberal guy at our college, situationship type deal I guess. This dude has a lot of connections in politics. Pretty driven guy for a 20 y/o, he was the student government president at one of the regional campuses of our school AND has an internship with our congressman.

Somehow, he knew Lamont and hung out with him a few times (invited to gatherings at his mansion type shit). Still surprises me a little, I guess they were sort of friends, and he was straight up included in one of his many 2022 campaign ads. He showed me a picture with him too.

Anyways, earlier this year, uconn students protested against the governor right outside the state capitol, because of his budget cuts that ended up seriously raising tuition (covid relief money going away I guess). I text that guy how he feels about all this, and he told me he joined the protests and planned to stop talking to Lamont. Tho I also got into an argument with him about uconn endorsing those protests as a scapegoat for overcharging us either way.

Yeah it's a small world. Murphy followed me on twitter for years because a guy I grew up with worked on his OG campaign. Think I told him to shut the fuck up one too many times though. I can't believe how much Storrs has changed. I grew up around there and all the places cops used to chase us on horses are apartments and shit now. I think they forgot the only reason they jave the land is because they're an agricultural school

It's not social as in socialism, it's social as in when people say they're "socially left and economically right" or whatever
