Weird how police are just desperately and fruitlessly scrounging around for anyone who might be committing a crime when I've been told that we're in a historic crime wave.
Yeah, but I got to do violence so who can say if it wasnt worth it in the end.
They were no angel, walking out of the store with a frozen pizza they purchased!
So in California they switched to reusable bags a couple years back, and its pretty common to buy something and just carry it out of the store if you don't need a bag or receipt. Every time I do that I worry about this exact thing happening to me.
I mean was that even unusual 30 years ago? The idea that every transaction needs both a digital and a paper record for all parties which may be scrutinized at any time only came about with the complete dominance of the computer
Even if you do have a receipt from Walmart, checking to identify every line item is a pain in the ass.

When I worked there and my manager asked me to check people’s receipt, I’d just pretend to look at the receipt and then stare blankly at the cart then let them through. I’ve let like 10 people who underscanned or straight up stole leave the store, and the security manager praised me for being vigilant and being a model employee lol
Encouraging retail employees to make a show of checking receipts is probably one of the best easy things we can do to improve people's lives under late capitalism.
The more shoppers that have an experience of an employee doing an empty check, the more people will get the idea that they can just take stuff.
