PS3 emulation's pretty great now actually, at least for the games I've played. Demon's Souls, Skate 3, and Drakengard 3 are fully functional the entire way through. And I've heard you can even do some shit to make MGS4 kinda work now.

Hard to emulate a fucked up version of a PC on a PC, and there's not a way to run them in virtualization. We're likely gonna have to wait til hardware gets way stronger.

Emulation isn't really the way to go with PS4 ideally a simpler translation layer would work mapping syscalls and sony libraries to os calls and vulkan api. Arguably not a huge feat since the console and its APIs should be well documented I imagine. Its just getting ahold of that doc.

I stopped buying consoles at the PS3 generation, and it bothers me that I'm missing out on bloodborne, but I'm not getting a PS4/PS5 just to play the one game. Either it comes out on PC one day, or I'll have to settle with missing out.

I hate the whole console exclusive thing; so many console exclusives that even if they kinda sucked still had their own fanbase who, if not for emulators, would have to keep an old console hooked up (like the first xbox) or else just give up playing it at all.

Fable 2 kinda counts in that category (though I unironically consider it better than the first one) but I'm not re-buying a console released in 2006 just to play it.

Look at this guy, owning a PS4. Meanwhile I'm just over here waiting 10 years for emulation to catch up.

The last console i ever owned was a PS1, and after having a very bad time building a gaming pc back in like 2009, i've only played games on laptops from then. sometimes even on my work laptop. Everytime i hear about console exclusives or some other bs I convince myself further i really don't want a console.

I keep wanting to get a steam deck but it's quite an expense, and idk if I want something where I can spend more time on the couch.

I'd just get a prebuilt desktop. Or buy the parts and pay someone else to build it for you. I also hate building computers, I was a nervous wreck both times I did it, and also fucked up inconsequential things that I never ended up fixing lol.

Consoles probably aren't worth it. I like Bloodborne, but, any day now, that's my cope.

I still have to have an install of StarCraft 2 on my PC at all times in case I ever want to try and relive my glory days only to immediately feel my age

I dropped it the first few times I tried playing it, but eventually you get good just like any other game. It's worth pushing yourself a little more to get past the first couple bosses, after that you'll probably be able to beat the whole thing.

After only playing the souls games, I have to say it's worth getting past that hurdle of being forced to use a new playstyle. They both have much faster combat than souls that I've come to enjoy more. Parrying is more forgiving in Bloodborne since it is at range and I love the rally mechanic. Sekiro is a totally different animal since you need to learn to deflect or not progress, but once it clicks the combat is very addictive. I think those benefits are worth not having the build variety of Souls and Elden Ring.

sekiro was the only fromsoft game i enjoyed enough to finish and 100%, but its basically a glorified rhythm game if we're being honest.

Yep, & that's why I love it it lol. All the games from Demon's Souls to Elden Ring are rhythm-based to an extent, but Sekiro is 100% rhythm. Once you memorize enemy attack rhythms, it's totally possible to get through the game with no deaths or even hits; the fact that everything can be deflected or countered makes the game easy once you have it down to muscle memory. One thing I don't like playing on console is there is no official way to fight mini-bosses in memories like major bosses, so Sword-Saint Isshin wound up easier for me than the Snake Eyes and Long Arm fights in NG+.
