All this person did was post a basic criticism of Oliver and now everyone is undeservedly dunking on them for it.

Should we be concerned? u/KissingerBrainInBox replies to a joke at Reddit. "@drkissingerphd is verified. This should be of no concern to anyone. It is most clearly a parody account run by a sub-standard intellect. It is not humorous. Furthermore - Dr. Henry Kissinger is not a 'dead celeb'. I am not a 'celeb'. I am not dead."

Ah, it's the issue with the Greens and Western leftists.

I order a nature conservation related magazine that just ran an editorial in the last issue listing all the problems of capitalism without mentioning capitalism even once. Wanted to burn the damn paper.

Not naming the problem is exactly the issue. And it's literally all leftism is now in countries like mine. Our leftest (lib) party proudly calls this "the modern left" and it's essentially just being a bourge with social justice related characteristics and imperalism.

"Media illiteracy" is quickly becoming one of the three or so rotating concepts twitter uses to explain every phenomenon until it loses all meaning

It's annoying how this keeps happening to ideas. It'd be cool if someone could trace the lineage of: new, accurate critique of the world -> critique's general proliferation and linguistic adoption because of its truth -> low-tier orbiters using critique incorrectly as an insta-win argument online, losing its original meaning.

This is so fucking stupid lmao. Criticizing America's politics without saying capitalism bad is exactly what the state wants. To the people living in America, neoliberalism is an invisible ideology. Not pointing it out is flailing in the dark, not pointing it out on purpose makes you their tool.

      Read theory!

"No, Imma just watch late night hosts"

Also John Oliver's jokes are mostly unfunny crass yelling at the audience/screen and just relies on the irony poisoning of living in a capitalist society. Every hexbear on this site is funnier than John Oliver, even our beanis comrades.

John Oliver is the only late night host who criticizes the Democratic Party from a left wing viewpoint and does criticize capitalism, he just does it without saying 'capitalism bad' upfront all the time. you are just media illiterate

This is literally the point of the meme lol. How do you call someone else illiterate and then regurgitate their exact point except make it more annoying and long winded as if it’s a gotcha

He's got better politics than I'd expect of a host of a broadcast TV show on a major network, but he's not really anyone I care that much about either. I don't really watch TV, and (more importantly) these personalities have expiration dates. At one point I liked Colbert but he became quaint in the face of Chapo; eventually Chapo themselves became quaint as a broader swath of podcasts did the things they did better. Eventually they too will become quaint as my interests move elsewhere and i crave increasingly outwardly belligerent media.

God I love it when people are critical of a critic's criticism.

Also no Quinton, it's because John Oliver is pretty clearly a mouthpiece for 'left-wing criticism' without any actual leftwing theory, which leads him to, in general, not understand the root of the problem, and fall for really really obvious American foreign policy lies.

    But also fuck blue checks.

"You claim to be a communist and yet you buy things" is tired, but when the thing in question is Twitter, perhaps still has some gas.
