Getting rid of librarians is pretty cringe on its own, but also turning the library into a disciplinary center? If anyone needed more proof of a school to prison pipeline there's none more clear than this here.

This decision came from having to reallocate resources to meet specific outcomes

Those "specific outcomes" being the destruction of literacy, intellectual curiosity, and historical awareness to the point where no one pushes back against the elimination of any and all social services apparently

if we didnt already have them, there is not the faintest chance you could get libraries created today. or any time within the last 40 years at least. they literally just skate by on being an incredibly old and widespread tradition which is proven to be cool and good. they generally accept libraries only because there's such overwhelming and sturdy evidence that they'd be wrong to oppose them. by that i dont mean they actually believe the evidence, just that they know better than to contradict it

USians eager to stunt the intellectual development of future generations, China like "thanks for helping us win the new Cold War, dipshits!"

America wants to win a cold war but they also refuse to take any steps to make American society capable of competing with China.

Coasting off of not getting bombed in ww2 is getting less and less helpful

HISD got taken over by the state and of course this would happen. They want to do this to Austin's school district because Texas' government hates its own capital city.

why does the [metropolitan area] not simply eat the [state government that loathes them & is stealing their autonomy]?

Texas is always threatening to secede, but I wonder what would happen if Austin decided to join New Mexico. 🤔

Good. Libraries are woke sjw propaganda that grooms children. All kids need are 8 hour long youtube video essays on barbie being satanic and how to field clean and shoot an ar-15 for when they do their own mass shooting.

"It's sending an entirely wrong message. Five years from now, that student who was sent to the Zoom Room (former name for Team Center) in the library, may associate reading and libraries with a punishment," said Hall. "Closing libraries will increase inequity. Looking at one school with a library and a school without a library, it's not the same. These students with the library have a lot more advantage in their educational journey," said Hall.

As someone who was punished by being forced to read technical manuals and dry jargon I can relate. doomjak
