NSFW, CW ableism/slurs against neurodivergents

They have very ableist images on their site, the user posting them isn't banned, nor is their comment deleted. At least some bit account calls them out on it. I will not directly link to the user's profile as it contains a flashing image useful to trigger epileptic attacks.

During only the thread in regards to the hexbear de-federation alone I encountered several -isms which would have gotten you banned on hexbear. This means that the lemmy dot world mods and part of its user base are "asshats" and couldn't be trusted in many hexbear communities.

Edit Since posting the link to the comment doesn't work anymore. I was on the edge whether to post it or not, but think in regards to the current federation / de-federation questions going on we ought to be quick at banning users if they reproduce hard ableism.

Warning flashing image!

Here is the mentioned user's profile https://lemmy.world/u/gsa32

It is obvious that they are not even following the "be friendly" dot world code of conduct and ableism is accepted on the instance.

Collection of infractions lemmy dot world doesn't fix CWs

User Aux with anticommunism, but more importantly also ableism:

/u/zombuey writes: these people really crossing the line between “ideology” and mental illness.

Bit Account: well said one step into their tankie cave and you can see how many are infected by the woke mind virus

Aux: Their ideology IS a mental illness.

Aux: As you know, I’m anti-defed. But in this instance I’m with admins. Hexbear is a cesspool for genocidal lunatics.

Or

I can usually tell how mentally ill someone is by how often they use the word “woke” lol

Implying more ableism:

I read this mostly like “they seem like a bunch of assholes so we’re defederating so we don’t have to interact with a bunch of assholes”. Cause the folks on Hexbear seem intense (sic!) compared to lemmygrad, etc. I know it’s really the anti-NATO stuff, but eh.

One good, but dowvoted user though: https://lemmy.world/comment/1973239

Surely lemmy.world will ban all of the users not being nice in their "this is why I'm leaving the DSA preemptively banning the TANKIES" thread.

After all, they are extremely concerned about hypothetical rulebreaking, so imagine what they'll do about actual rulebreaking!

I checked blahaj.zone and it seems to be a Mastodon instance. There's lemmy.blahaj.zone, which is a Lemmy instance affiliated with their flagship Mastodon one. So, it's like us and toots.matapacos.dog except in reverse. Most likely, they will stick with their white trans-flavored radlibness because they aren't really attracting people from Reddit but people from Twitter. Or at least that's my 10 minute impression.

I spent a few minutes looking through Lemmy World. It seems like most of the users are OK, but a few a pretty shitty. Honestly it feels maybe slightly better than normal Reddit.

It's not. I suggested that it's dangerous to dehumanize anyone they disagree with by calling them a Nazi/bigot/toxic and is a slippery slope that lead the last group that did something similar to putting all of their opponents in work camps. I got brigaded against for a day, then my comments removed, and banned. Even had someone wish me to die in a car accident. ^.^

Like you guys did on the LW announcement by calling everyone a fascist? I agree

Most people on LW are left-leaning and then everyone from here goes over to that thread, calls them "libs" and shits on them. "Suck off a lib and a fascist comes?" good stuff from a Hexbear admin.

So at this point I could just keep laughing at you, because the line of thinking that led you to the idea that this is hypocrisy continues to be quite amusing, but instead I will break The Rules and explain unironically.

That line is a joke. Carcosa wasn't saying every lib is a fascist; if they'd wanted to say that, they'd have used the line "social democracy is objectively the moderate wing of fascism," but it would have gone over people's heads in that thread anyway. The line Carcosa used is a joking riff on "Scratch a liberal and a fascist bleeds," which is not saying that every lib is a fascist but rather that libs often turn into fascists when they experience real or perceived harm of some kind (a classic example is the liberal Boston residents who sued to stop bussing for integration when it caused their children to have to spend a significant amount of time each day being bussed to and from school; their supposed liberalism did not stop them from demanding a return to de facto segregation, which they got, and in which state New England school systems persist to this day).

Keep in mind that continuing to argue with me at this point will only make this whole thing funnier.

They also don't seem to care about transphobia. I once called out a user there on their history of transphobic comments across the site, and they were still posting in the thread about Hexbear defederation (ironically, one of their upvoted comments was ”The BBC is transphobic? Since when?” I-was-saying ).

I think it is a bit account.

Edit After having a look at their profile I don't think anymore they are a bit account. Though their profile is the Mao quote in regards to redistribution.

Edit edit Even if they are a bit account which isn't unlikely they are objectively contributing to hexbear hostile opinion with their 100 comments in the thread. Their agitprop is funny to us, but supports the ban as for liberals arguments don't count as much as loud voices.

reason: Hateful user broke instance rules multiple times

          Banned 小黑。
reason: Hateful user broke instance rules multiple times. Please be more careful next time
          expires: in 7 days

What is strange is that I didn't find in the modlog where they locked the thread.

They did delete a "Move to lemm.ee" post by Lenin's 2nd Cat though (and banned them, too). Meanwhile several insults and CoC breaches remain. Which means who is banned is mostly banned cause the dot world admins don't like them, not whether they infringe the CoC.

They have very ableist images on their site, the user posting them isn't banned, nor is their comment deleted.

I think it's worth noting that "schizo" seems to be the new favourite word among certain far-right communities too. I would call it the replacement for "cuck", which historically they used as a replacement for "f*ggot". "Schizo" has become one of my goto words that IDs chan-style fascists.

This is probably a Exploding Heads user alt account.

The reason none of these have been acted against is the usual reason. They are doing so in service of liberalism, so it's ok. Liberals are happy to ally with fascists and/or demonstrate that they have absolutely no principles by not taking action against people and going selectively blind to things being reported if the users breaking the rules are doing so against targets that they want to see that behaviour against.

What they're oblivious to here is the fact that this creates a nazi bar syndrome.

I thought of it more as a replacement of the r slur, only it emphasizes insanity instead of stupidity.

Edit: kind of like how autistic was used like the r slur, but with more emphasis on social ineptitude.

It does but I'm more talking about chan culture here. Historically the fascists on the chans have a single word that they use over and over and over again. Back in the early days it was "f*ggot", that later changed to "cuck", and now it's transitioning to "schizo".

Anyway I have had your experience on lemmyworld with reporting ableism, they do not act on it. It is acceptable to use mental illness as an insult there.

I also noted in my time there that they almost never actually punish people for anything either, they do comment removals from time to time (on things only they want to) but those almost never also come with temp or permabans. This seems rather pointless to me, you can't alter the behaviour of people if they don't even know that they've had mod actions against them or get some kind of punishment.

This probably all comes back to Antik who appears to be the head admin and really seems like he has no experience whatsoever in running any reddit-like community. Which is bound to slowly create a nazi-bar. I'm willing to bet that others below him disagree or have discomfort about certain things but are incapable of speaking up, likely because they fear how it would impact them. This was pretty typical in reddit hierarchy team dynamics when dealing with a topmod who behaves like a tyrant.

Lukewarm take: getting large transfusions of users from other groups has not historically gone well for Hexbear. The need to take a minute to register an account is a good filter for people with shit opinions and we should keep it that way.

    • UlyssesT [he/him]
      ·

Even with that filter in place, we already have to sometimes contend with very brave wrecker accounts that don't get the hint until six, seven, eight, or even more alts made in rapid succession to try to own the tankies. cringe

That is kind of what the federation discussion was about and why a few instances were to be used to approach the lemmyverse. I do think that not opening up would keep a safe platform on hexbear and keep the community developing, but I do think that having the ability to remain an identity over more of networks would lead to more content and communication options (which include lukewarm stuff).

If it is too much the defederation ability or lock in of external users would remain possible.
