Any and all gaming projects, be they full game releases or some dudes personal mod, will be hounded by JAQing off about how communism is actually bad. There's a real smugness to it, too. Like, "whao guys I know you're having fun over here but we're all on the same page that stalin murdered my grandparents with a giant spoon, right??"

I have actual ancestors that were killed in crimea after the communist revolution. They owned a mill and apparently were dicks and colonizers. I told my daughter about it and she responded 'they probably had it coming'. I'm a very proud father

This reminds me of the time that I encountered one of my cousins whom I hadn't talked to in 10 years at a family event. When he asked me what I had been up to, I told him that I was really into the Tropico series, and how I've been building a little communist island society and was having a lot of fun. His first response was, "Oh cool, so you have bread lines, secret police, and all of your citizens are poor af?" pain

Have a friend from Australia who lived in an ostensibly rich U.S. city for about a year and said they got real culture shock by how dilapidated the infrastructure was.

The only places that have “good” infrastructure in the US are in rings around cities where the development has been fairly recent so the roads and all haven’t had time to degrade. Outside of the ring you have rural areas and they either have nonexistent infrastructure or what they have is dilapidated. Inside that ring you have older parts of the city that get neglected and usually the more non-white it gets the less resources are spent on infrastructure so it just gets worse.

Unfortunately, the people who live in that ring of good infrastructure tend to also be who American society caters to (middle class and rich white people).

It does have secret police, and ratings for how loyal workers must be to work in places like schools. At least it did when I played it. He should ask the pro Palestine students if their political affiliations have resulted in a loss of opportunities.

Which is funny that it is included since I don't remember any other city builders requiring your police to evict people, crush protests and strikes.

I downloaded a tiny police station that was labelled "Post Office, Not Secret Police". I laughed, but yes there are some basic government mechanics. It's pretty underdeveloped compared to the industrial and transport stuff though. Unlike Cities: Skylines, you cannot legalise weed (or even choose crops other than "crops"). You can set prison sentences though.

it's pretty convenient having a monoculture that's fungible for all your basic needs

      corn-man-khrush food

      corn-man-khrush livestock

      corn-man-khrush alcohol

      corn-man-khrush fabric

I think it would be dope having either re-fertilising fields or crop rotation or something. Different nitrite levels, acidity etc. The pollution mechanic is also single note

There's a case that can definitely be made for simpler models for economies and pollution. You get too detailed and the fun factor drifts-- there's too much to manage.

I tried Civ 6 recently when it was like $3 and found myself foundering even though I had plenty of playtime with the first one back in the 386 days-- too many new mechanics.

I keep forgetting Ссср is abbreviation for soviet union and keep thinking about the codec pack I used to download for windows. Rip that codec pack.
