Imagine being so absolutely incompetent that you take Obama's popular movement and turn it into this in just 12 years.

The problem is that Obama's popular movement was all based on lies.

Well yes, and this is exactly what you should expect to happen when people put their hopes in you and you stab them in the back.

Weird how they've universally alienated the youth vote across multiple demographics

I wonder what part of "nothing will fundamentally change" rubbed young Black people the wrong way. 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔 🤔

      The Kanye Effect.

Trump's Ghetto Fabulous. And, for better or worse, he's surrounded himself with wealthy and influential black figures - from Herman Cain to Daniel Cameron to Tim Scott - and made a very deliberate attempt to present as friendly to black business people. He's running the GOP playbook on the black community, and hey look! It works about as well as it did on the white community! Something something, class interest.

I can't really blame young black people for turning towards the GOP, particularly in Midwestern states where the party just dominates the fuck out of the opposition. White Democrats hate you as much as White Republicans. Fuck it. At least you get to be on the winning team.

At least the GOP is making some token effort at outreach. What have Democrats done for me lately? Nothin'? K, bye.

    I found the poll: https://theconversation.com/young-black-americans-not-sold-on-biden-the-democrats-or-voting-143884

It's only black voters in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina and Georgia. The under 30 also had a sample size of 600 people. Not familiar with this site, so I don't know how reliable they are -- but I think it's important to know the whole context as this stat of young black voters going to republicans would be genuinely troubling.

The difference between a Democratic Party that actually gives you something and one that would primary Reagan

Props to the 7% of young Black voters who think Trump is a racist and also that GOP is welcoming to Black Americans. Fucking brilliant.

oh noooo if only there was a nascent social democratic movement that could lock up these votes for generations with only the slightest fucking compromises. guess we'll just suppress it and shoot ourselves in the foot for the 6th time

oh noooo if only there was a nascent social democratic movement that could lock up these votes for generations with only the slightest fucking compromises.

You might think that would be desirable.

But consider Michael Bloomberg is worth $60 Billion dollars. That's $60. Billion. With a B. He's going to send you enough money to get the really swank office space. You're going to be so petite bourgeoisie by the time Bloomberg's done raising money for you. Maybe even Clinton/Obama-level bourgeoisie if you play your cards right.

What are you supposed to do with young black voters? They're poor af. And half of them aren't even enfranchised, ffs.

oh yeah 100% that would be the case. this is made with the (unproven) assumption that the democratic party actually wants to win and do stuff for people

They want to win. You have a lot more fun and get paid better and enjoy all the cool perks of being a high ranking elected official when you win.

But they don't want to serve their constituents. Constituents are gross and dumb. They want you to do things that require a lot of hard work and planning and compromise. And they don't give generous kickbacks or put your friends and family on the boards of their Fortune 500 companies.

Democrats want to win the fun way. The coke and hookers way. They want to be members of the bourgeoise, not the vanguard of the proletariat.

or because every attempt for POC to organize into anything is atomized? Even milquetoast, bar on the ground slogans like Black Lives Matter are debated. It's 2020 and people still question whether you're capable of consciousness you hug tight to the system, because when there's protest against it they silence them without discretion.

If you want to meet black Republicans go to Waldorf, MD. Lots of black skilled tradesmen that are very much into the same shit as their white co-workers except maybe music and tobacco products. Kind of a weird place in general, it's like an hour from DC, feels kind of like a suburb, kind of like a small town.

This is what happens when you take a group's vote for granted based on something you did 50+ years ago and fail to consider that a day will come when everyone's too young to remember it.
