Even our "advocacy" groups do a very poor job educating the population about queer people growing up and the why bulling and exclusion is bad for their health and for them when they become adults.
For those wondering on the whole litter box stuff - some schools have buckets with cat litter in case there is an active shooter / lockdown situation. 30+ scared and anxious kids theres going to be some bathroom issues and taking a hall pass half way across the school with a shooter doesn't work well, neither does "shit qnd piss your pants in front of your peers".
Kids who have problems being social but are better putting on a persona or fursona in social environments are being allowed to wear some costume attire in schools to help them learn and socialize better. Autistic, non verbal, neurodivergent ect. I.R. not a shrink so maybe I'm missing the right term. But again our media and leadership are failing the public massively in basic education on these issues.

Also, in a much more mundane way, cat litter is just helpful to have around in case of large spills. We have a thing of it in my lab for chemical spills, and my dad keeps one in his garage for oil spills.
Cat litter (or vermiculite, or diatomaceous earth) is also commonly found in schools because children tend to randomly throw up and it is a basic spill response tool for businesses.

litter has been used for cleaning before, sure, but the furry litterbox myth is specifically in response to the actual litter buckets for kids to poopoo/peepee in the classroom in the case of active shooter lockdowns
