Oh yeah sonic thread so what's everyone's favorite zone?
Marble Zone is underrated
I like marble zone, the theming and music is rather unique and i don't mind the slower platforming.
I love going from really fast in my fast game to sitting there waiing for a platform across the lava. but, we've had his argument before, you know my take on it
I know you need to git gud
I am good a classic sonic, I am transgender and have autism. I just think it's bad game design
I am better evidently
Windmill Isle from Unleashed has stupid good vibes. First zones are kinda cheating but it's such fun to blast through.
If not, Red Mountain.
I only played unwiished so I don't know if there's a huge difference between it and the 360 version but regarding red mountain it's probably my favorite from sonic adventure aside from speed highway. The part where you go inside an active volcano is such a vibe that's unique to it. The grungy sounding rock with the weird vocal sample repeating throughout and the dark earthy setting just makes it for me.
There is a huge difference, different games. Unwiished is not bad but the 360 version is so beautiful and so vibey...
Yeah holy shit, Red Hot Skull that track absolutely fucks. Goated stage!!
I'll need to play the 360 version but unfortunately I no longer own a 360 :/ maybe xenia is decent at this point.
Actually not only does Xenia run it perfectly, there are patches for 60fps and removal of medal gates. It slaps, it's not too hard to run, my PC from 2016 still can =) it is also on PS3 fwiw.
Oh shit that's awesome, it's amazing what emu devs are able to do :D

The days of having to go through obtuse ui to mess with settings on a per game basis is something I don't miss. It's so much easier now.
theme and tone wise? always been a fan of chemical plant zone in sonic 2. that gritty indusrial chemical goop and machinery, also the music is goated
gameplay wise, honestly green hill zone in sonic 1 really is just that good. you go fast, and you can get really good at going really fast. I have beat act 1 in like 20 seconds before
I remember as a kid i would get hard stuck on act 2 of chemical plant so finally being able to beat it was a gratifying feeling for 8 year old me. Nowadays i could get through it a lot of it easily but the part where you're submerged in purple goop still gives me trouble.
was it those fucking rotating square stair things? those always got me as a kid
Yeah those things it was such a difficulty spike.
Aquatic Ruin Zone:
It's a clear demonstration of 2d Sonic level design where you have multiple parallel paths you can take. Aquatic Ruin Zone has three paths, an upper path that completely avoids water, a lower path that is underwater, and a middle path. It's also arranged based on difficulty with the upper path being the easiest and the lower path being the hardest.
Aquatic Ruin Zone is overall a ruins theme zone, but that's strictly untrue since the ruins theme is only completely present in the middle path. The upper path is more of a forest theme while the lower path is just a water level. Thus, Aquatic Ruin Zone is able to seamlessly incorporate three different zone themes into one zone without it feeling contrived. The only other zone I could think of that is able to incorporate different themes in this way is Hill Top Zone, which is simultaneously a snow and lava zone.
The music is also really good.
