As a reminder breaking hexbear's code of conduct on other instances will result in action on hexbear

Why does this remind of bs like America and Eritrea taxing their citizens on income made anywhere in the world and countries like Singapore drug testing returning residents at their borders to throw them in jail if tested positive

not really the same, since you are always browsing through here, using hexbear servers. If you actually browse to another server and make an account there that would be different

Kinda is the same, since when you travel or emigrate with a US passport, you're doing so as an imperial citizen

None joke: I am trying but it is legit hard sometimes.

I'm trying so hard but I think I'm going to last at most three more days until I start copping bans. I just start seeing red and hearing Rise Against playing the internationale and when I come to my screen is covered in a pig pooping on it's own balls!

It's in the intro of the song "the numbers" if you want a serious answer. First song in the album"nowhere generation". Unfortunately it's a sample, they don't actually play it.

Fairly sure Tim Mcllrath confirmed it's a Russian version of L'Internationale in an interview. Genius dot com got it wrong on their lyrics page.

Songfacts: Nowhere Generation opens with a brief audio clip of a song called "The Internationale" (aka "L'Internationale").

McIlrath: "L'Internationale" has sort of become an anthem for the left-wing movements throughout history. Different cultures have kept the rhythm and the song the same, but they changed the lyrics to suit whatever struggle they were going through.

McIlrath: I think it's like the music to the French national anthem, but we use a Russian version to kick the record off. It's just a nod to a lot of the labor movements around the world, and also to point out a lot of the struggles that we deal with today are something that we've dealt with historically.

oh neat, it didn't have the tune I'm used to and it sounded similar to the anthem so I just assumed. I hadn't heard the rest of this song before and I love that Rise Against has only gotten more explicitly leftist over the years.

Yeah I don't like their partnership with Indecline for their latest music videos (I still remember Indecline's edgy asshole style Reddit AMA), but whatever gets the message out there, I support it. Still love Rise Against though.

Are Rise Against considered a protest band these days? I love them musically, but thought the fact they went corporate with the major labels years ago would put people off here.

They radicalized so many people on antiwar and environmental issues that I kinda just ignore their more recent behavior.

Plus they have a lot of top tier bangers.

I mean they're as left as you'll get amongst more mainstream bands, sampling the Internationale in their latest songs and all. It's a good intro to more political music.

Yeah, PPB might be a bit extreme, a borderline shock image, to someone who isn't quite as marinated as we are. Obviously, it's funny when it's unleashed on some complete asshole but a lot of these instances seem fairly tame

Lol, it's a photo people here will post as a "fuck you" type reply. We have a few of them as emojis PIGPOOPBALLS pigpoop countdown, and it's also available as a link at the bottom of the site if viewed from Hexbear.net.

PPB, the acronym for pig poop balls, is sometimes used for comedic effect to mean different things, like Posting Policy Bulletin.

            Make sense?

My opinion is feel free to dunk as much lib in another instance as you want, but do it with an account on that instance. This serves many purposes. If you get away with it, it helps change outside opinions on that instance leading others to think your take represents that instance. It helps you get away with it because mods are more likely to think you're part of their community, as do the users. They will be more likely to take your take seriously. This also helps keep the heat from Hexbear more generally. It also helps keep everyone federated, which maybe you think is good or maybe not, but trying to force defederation by being an ass all over on a Hexbear account is honestly pretty poor form anyway

It's simple combo of opsec and image. Keep yourself clean on the Hexbear side and make your mess locally to that instance. It's what they do to us. Don't make it easier on the libs by showing up in your Hexbear uniform. To dunk the lib in their house you must first pretend to be the lib

Hot take but we should probably spoiler emojis on other instances until the bug gets fixed, unless you're sure it's not one of the huge ones. It's a funny bug but I imagine it's pretty annoying on the other side of it.

I agree. Like probably 50% of my content here on Hexbear is our emojis, but we should leave that shit here.

Certain emojis appear huge on other instances, taking up nearly the whole screen on mobile. For some of them it's really funny that it's the case, but probably less so on the recieving end. Really adds to our chaotic posting energy

Some of the ones that appear huge through other instances

it would be funny to have some signal on hexbear home instance posts (which also shows up on apps, because some obscure instances)... but make a gag out of it like

I'm sorry I ran into the fascist who came here yesterday to be all anti-communist and double genocide theory on the 4chan instance and I couldn't resist telling him to follow his leader while he was doing a racism and bemoaning all the false positives calling things racist. Maybe we won't get to see the 4chan instance now. Mea culpa.

Honestly, we don't usually- before federation I'd say the vibe was more cozy. We'd mostly make a couple of posts discussing stuff, and things only got heated around here when there was a big argument. But federation kinda activated most of us, at first for the novelty, and then the ol' Chapo spirit kicked in when we realized that Redditors did us the service of bringing their bad takes here for us to yell at them for.

r/Chapotraphouse already had a unique site culture, then being on our own in exile for so long has made the in-jokes extra impenetrable. Honestly, most of it is terminally online, irony-poisoned stuff and I wouldn't sweat it- if there's anything you'd like to know feel free to ask, just be cool and don't be a bigot 👍

Edit: Also, yeah, the crack too. You watched Cocaine Bear? It's like that.

things only got heated around here when there was a big argument.

It doesn't help that the other instances love the topics that started the most arguments, namely China and the war in Ukraine. If Hexbear had the exact same energy but directed towards, like uhh, oil painting techniques or something, I don't know if they'd even really notice us

we're extremely online and we genuinely like our community

plus we have spent 3 years resting on our laurels, snacking on the occasional far-right wrecker who wanders in to our little cave

all this eager prey running around is making us hungry

When I'm in other comms I like to treat it like I'm back on Reddit. Check their TOS and etiquette guide, then check the sidebar for the individual subcomm I'm in to be 100% sure.

Are folks really out here not doing that? I mean, were a guest in their house, we gotta follow their rules.

I have my default set to local, so if I decide to see what's going on in the broader lemmyverse, it has to be an active decision to click all. So far, that has kept me from getting confused about where I am.
