I would’ve preferred someone with a passing resemblance over the CGI uncanny valley. I get that he’s an android but a real face with some makeup can’t be that hard
Studios would rather use expensive and weird looking cgi to represent a death/old actor in character than just recasting a look alike
i dont think the "family's permission" is a good enough excuse. i dont think families/estate should even have a say, because they almost always say yes to these abominations
I wonder how much his estate was paid for their "permission"
there's only one person who's permission matters and it's the one person unable to give it
No you can just train the Ai on all his info and it can figure out if he would have wanted it, surprise they always say yes.
But they're dead so we created their likeness trained on their breadth of works and the likeness says it's okay so it's okay
I hate hate hate this
Just cast a different actor to play the same character. Audiences will figure out who it's supposed to be. For instance, Doctor Sleep. It's not a great movie at all, but it's kinda fun and there's cool moments. Jack Torrance from The Shining reappears in it, several times, played entirely by a different actor than Jack Nicholson and the actor isn't even doing a precise Nicholson impression. But it's still obvious who it is.
Just do that, have confidence enough to use different actors play the same characters.
what's funny is that it's not even the same character, it's a different android who happens to have the same face. literally no reason to do this other than vapid nostalgia
I'm imagining this...
"Would the real Ian Holm love to be in the movie?" - director Fede Álvarez.
"Yes. No question. I absolutely would! I mean - you know what I mean!" - aiIanHolm
It's full on Tarkintown gibberish
Which is a shame, because otherwise the movie is pretty alright
His family said it was ok
Oh, so you also compensated them, right?
even though I kinda liked it overall the callbacks were all forced and unnecessary. the actual lore stuff was even done well, but the one liners and stuff were just jarring
Between studios refusing to recast characters as their original actors age and bullshit like bringing back dead actors, we're going to just have franchises soon made entirely of AI generated voices and likeness so that Captain America can be Chris Evans in perpetuity or some shit
Retvrn to when characters were played by like a dozen different people and nerds argued over which did it best
Such a bummer. I was really looking forward to seeing this one in theaters.
It’s just a popcorn flick. Still very entertaining but there are flaws. The sound design and the special effects both practical and CG are all really good. It feels a lot like Alien: Isolation. The story is ok and the characters are pretty forgettable though
This is awesome. Now let's force robin Williams to do 100 shitty Adam Sandler style Netflix movies posthumously
Their characters' names are coincidentally are also their names.
Adam: "What are we gonna do now?"
Robin: "I don't know what I'm gonna do. But I think I know what Dunkin should gotta do. Name a drink after me!" As if by magic - a drink appears in his hand. "Hey! Thanks Dunkin'! And everybody's gotta know that Dunkin' is supporting this and the next 16 posthum AdRob Netflixies..."
Sounds good! If it's cool with the estate it's cool with me!
The scene where he gets revealed was the moment where I switched from "this is a pleasant surprise of an okay movie" to "what an absolute corporate board meeting of a turd".
I might still see it so no spoilers please but is he a large part of the movie or a single scene? I despise this whole ai deepfaking dead actors trend. It's bad enough when its a single scene/shot, but if he has a significant role I might skip it entirely
