You can do that on Red Alert 2, and the Mental Omega mod expansion adds the Chinese as a subfaction of the Communist side.
Not a fan of the CoD Style games, but I do enjoy seeing chinese developers make their own cool games. And if it angers the stupid westerners, then I like it more.
Honestly, after being bombarded for years with anti-Japanese fantasy dramas (抗日神剧) where our protagonists could leap several stories high, jump across buildings and almost flying on air, and single handedly kill 50 Japanese soldiers with unlimited ammo, this kind of material is more of a joke these days in China (just tune in to CCTV to watch any of these dime in a dozen anti-Japanese drama). I doubt there will be much appetite for this apart from the CoD FPS and hardcore nationalist fanbase.

I guess everyone just forgets that in the original Call of Duty you are in the red army fighting the nazis. cod doesn't just suck because of the over the top jingoism but it's a 20 year old series in a genre that was already getting stale back when it was released.
True dat. The Red Army sequences had some terminal hitler brain, like a bunch of crap from the Usian Enemy at the Gates was the crossing the volga sequence, but bombing through Kursk with the Doobie Brothers on the radio full blast zeroing Hitlerite tanks was cool af.
