The last time Americans experienced war was in 1865. Sure, we've had our Oklahoma City Bombings, Pearl Harbors, and 9/11, but actual, genuine warfare? No American in living memory has been on the receiving end of having foreigners take over their house as a shelter before torching it the next day. Or had to watch their family members get gunned down during a shootout between two militaries.
It's been completely abstracted. Americans are incapable of putting themselves in the shoes of civilians in other countries. The violence and chaos is only theoretical.
To Americans War is something that they do to other people overseas and watch on TV. War is a one-sided affair where America imposes it's will on the Other and brings them to heel. War isn't their communities being bombed and their friends, family, and neighbors being murdered, it's shots of jets being launched from carriers, bombs going off in a Bad City, and occasionally a flag draped casket being loaded onto a plane so they can say "See! Our brave troops are being killed, we have to glass Bad City!".

It seems unreasonable to get so angry at someone for starting to see reason. Yes their position is contradictory, but their condemnation of Hamas is probably just knee-jerk or out of fear of "civil-society"/hasbara harassment.

my family lives in iran. if my family gets bombed its because people like that refuse to say what they know to be true out of the fears you pointed out but that applies to all of us too and we aren’t going around saying hamas is evil for defending themselves
