Sorry but this sucks, Haz sucks, it's stupid, you can detect the same edgelord excitement in his plan as the 14 year old who writes essays for school about torturing and killing Barney but in doing so reveals that he is still very emotionally invested in Barney

I would simply invent and deploy a new type of professional mingler who would go around striking up convos with people leaving marvel movies, prompt them to describe the movie, and adopt that bullying affect of "oh yeah? sounds sick dude, (snickering) 3 hours long huh?"

(streaming services are the problem here, capitalist alienation strikes again)

Haz has the same energy as Sid, the bully from Toy Story. He wants play with your toys so badly but he plans to also blow them up with firecrackers.

while i want a blossoming off original art in such a world i also really want to see where artists take things when everything becomes public domain.

like how theres some really amazing fanfics out there that put the original works to shame. but with a crew of thousands of dedicated people working on it and huge grants from the State Art Fund

Star Wars I agree but I think Marvel slop should go. Even pre-cinematic universe it was going downhill.

This is just let’s kill Barney for cynical leftists

Also what’s with the Mickey Mouse hate? Disney and Disney adults all suck, but Mickey is just a cute mouse. The Disney fandom doesn’t even give a shit about Mickey Mouse. Free my boy Mickey

Sometimes, some people try so hard to be "mature" that they are very immature about it, like wanting a violent death for cartoon characters.

That was a bad time; a lot of people I knew were really into Happy Tree Friends for a while and kept showing me clips of it.

One was enough to get the idea, but for a time it seemed like there was an endless appetite for "what if cute thing that's friendly for all ages... but horribly murdered?" so-true

I love the idea that the state is going to enforce an "official canon" for Marvel and Star Wars. Like if you write a fan fic about Luke and Han having a gay love affair and try and pass it as canon the Fiction NKVD is gonna bust down your door.

First rule of capeshit is that heroes (and villains) never die, and even if they do, someone will take their capes*, so there's infinite material for sequels.

*This of course sounds worse once you get older than 13 and understand it's because character development is expensive and not always successful, though 90% of DC universe and 80% of Marvel seems to make the latter point entirely moot.

I don't think Marvel, Star Wars and Harry Potter fans are really "edgy grimdark" fandoms, if anything they're the opposite.

I think you're lumping in Rick and Morty fans in with everyone else, in my experience they tend not to care for Marvel or Potter much, and only care for the OG Star Treks.

I disagree for the most part and I present as exhibits the highly popular "Marvel Zombies" fad as well as, coincidentially, the similar "Death Troopers" thing in Star Wars. The Old Republic MMORPG used to reek of "rakghoul" events and such space zombies barfing over everyone as part of rather hyped events in that game that made it insufferable for a while.

Also, Harry Potter had edgy fanfic spinoffs, including "Methods of Rationality" (that also had zombies, including awooga with Herminone's zombie!)

You wanted evidence of those fandoms being receptive to edginess, so I gave it to you.

I read HPMoR back in the day, I don’t remember any grimdark shit, but he was still writing it when I stopped reading so I’m not surprised to hear it went that direction.

It was so weird to hear the author of HPMoR come up in a recent TrueAnon episode, but not at all surprising to learn that he’s an ai grifter these days.

I don’t remember any grimdark shit

There's a pretty long and exhaustive comprehensive list of the grimdark shit in it, especially as it proceeds to its Randian "the entire cosmos is just a bunch of exploitable resource nodes for the taking" fever dream ending, but what I already mentioned was (CW: necrophilia, CSAM)

                spoiler

the part where Herminone is killed but magically reanimated in a way where Big Yud dares the reader to enter his magical fetish realm by narratively stating how Hermione's magic zombie lacks volition but can still responds positively to sex and his fucked up "rationalist" version of Harry Potter is cool with that and very horny for the zombie.
