Much love to all of you, but I don't like being compelled to offer up any information about myself onto the internet. If a default is assigned, I'll use it without any complaints.

You're mad that people who don't have flair are being obstinate transphobes. But blank flair IS THE DEFAULT, isn't it? So wouldn't that mean that the design imports transphobia?

If having blank flair is obstinate transphobia, the design that makes that as the default is obstinate transphobia.

Admins should intervene. There will literally always be unflaired users because that is the default.

    Am I wrong?

      Eh

It's a newish website and the options are there

It's like an open beta atm

yeah that's exactly how it should work IMO. I'm sure some of them keep blank flairs to be contrarian, but a lot of them have it simply because it's the default. are we going to have a "flair up" PSA every time we get a new user? After a day worth of ranting, I don't know why the design has gotten a complete pass.

features are never meant to be released fully complete. we release something and then alter it and make changes based on the feedback we get from users.

I have literally no idea how websites work and I'm not criticizing anybody. If blank pronouns are a problem then the problem begins where every account begins with a blank pronoun.

Is it possible to force the flair to be set at registration? I dunno I just post here. But that's my feedback ♥️

I think it's totally reasonable to not want to fully identify yourself on an internet forum.

"attack helicopter" should be included as an option that insta-bans an account.

And you wonder why people aren't enthusiastic about it

You are on a forum full of fellow comrades that are actually willing to listen to you. This isn't reddit or twitter, and for once posting isn't just for personal gratification. You have to lose the mindset of calling everyone an idiot when they disagree with you.
Also, people disagreeing with your takes =/= reactionary

someone please explain to me why not picking pronouns feels uncomfortable for our trans comrades here. im obviously not trans, so there might be something im not getting. i also dont want to piss on anyone's leg, i legitly want to understand how it might feel to someone who does feel uncomfortable with it. thanks!

Transphobia is when you don't feel comfortable telling someone your pronouns, and the less comfortable you feel the more transphobicier it is.

There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong if you like the anonymity of the internet where you don't have to worry about how to present. Trans people are NOT singled out by listing their pronouns on here because it is the only way to discern someone's gender, meaning that plenty of cis people list theirs for the simple reason that they don't want to be misgendered either.

This struggle session is bad and not identifing yourself does not make you a bigot, like this place has randomly decided it does. Chapo.chat is having a very normal one today.

So not listing your pronouns and leaving it to others to call you whatever they like is bigotry, but listing it as any and leaving it to others to call you whatever they like is good? It's such an arbitrary and meaningless distinction.

Setting the default to "none" would solve this issue, wouldn't it? It took me a while to even figure out where you change it. None of these threads explain anything to somebody who doesn't know where the menu is. 😅 I didn't even realize this was about the UI at first!
