I like how they just gloss over the fact that they specifically are being critiqued and made fun of by the character and the show, but still want to do that sort of post. How can you hear this:
"You did the most important thing. You... you bought something. You bought something. With money. God. I love money so much[...] Merchandise, Morty. Your only purpose in life is to buy and consume merchandise. And you did it. You went into a store... an actual honest to God store... And you bought something. You didn't ask questions or raise ethical complaints. You... you just looked straight into the bleeding jaws of capitalism and said "yes, daddy, please." And I'm... I'm so proud of you. I only wish you could've bought more. I... I love buying things so much, Morty."
And not be like "Wow, shit. That whole jerking off when line go up thing really makes us sound a bit silly when he puts it like that and then immediately tries to make out with his grandson and then watch tv". Imagine identifying with a character - who is literally supposed to ne the worst human - who absolutely parodies your ideology and then still thinking "smart man is us, we is good because number go up!"
There's some good moments to it, but you really have to walk into it realizing that they are fully intending to take the piss out of everything, and that all the characters are shitty people that believe in nothing in a universe where nothing matters and they can't really ever lose anything.
That particular bit was a rant at the end of a complete nonsense episode that included a fake advertisement and website that went nowhere - which was even more of a shot at these weird bootlicking fans who created the who mcdonalds sauce meltdown - but the show doesn't usually have such a good take on making fun of capitalists.
It's kinda like Always Sunny in that you should not be identifying with these characters because they are supposed to be a comedic level of awful. It's pretty great to get drunk or high and throw on with a few friends so you can all laugh at the genuinely funny bits and make fun of the dumb bits. It's not a show to get invested in, for many reasons, but the "community" is the biggest one.
This review has been presented to you by ADD and forgetting to just go the fuck to sleep, sponsored by caffeine at weird hours.
Look I know Rick and Morty get a bad rap and for good reason, but there are not many shows so attuned to my weird humor wavelength that they do 10 minutes snake scenes with no dialogue but "sssss".
Oh totally. Hard agree, snake episode was absolutely top tier, on par with the slut dragon episode and the alternate pilot episode of archer where he's just a raptor. The weird humor is the draw and it's why its enjoyable, it's not a bad show, it's just something you need to acknowledge as "just a show" before you invest yourself in it.
It's... not bad. There are some genuinely funny bits in it and it's entertaining enough. There are probably more good or decent episodes than shit ones. The fanbase is fucking terrible though.
Also worth mentioning that the showrunner is not a fan of their fans, which is good
I don't think the fans are fans of the fans. It's probably why they're so desprate to be the magic science wizard.
There are a lot of people who like Rick and Morty. There are a few people who REALLY like Rick and Morty.
The former tends to be put off by the latter
Instead of going to college, we all should go get a job at daddy's investment firm.
The only numbers being moved are the $10k they need to supply their monthly coke habit.
By sometime around 2018 it was obvious that reddit was mostly 15 year olds
Back in 2014 it still felt mostly 20s people
Agreed. But the pandemic, summer vacation, and remote schooling have exacerbated things.
I hate the Rick character because for all his venom towards everyone, he never gets his own comeuppance. None of his losses feel actually real so like in a game with little consequence he picks the asshole option and gets away with it.
A better written show would have him never escape even a cosmic humiliation since he cant get it from the rest of the cast.
Fucking hate that show
If Rick is woman she'll definitely be one of the most hated character in fiction with 6-hour long rant videos lining up your youtube recommendation ever since you accidentally clicked on a slightly edgy meme video that one time.
just waiting on the big reveal that rick is ftm.
i have never seen the show, but that is now canon. deal with it nerds.
That would actually be an interesting reveal to end the show with.
It would probably result in nerds suicide bombing Cartoon Network HQ though so likely won’t happen.
Cartoon network is too coward to deal with what Gainax did at the end of NGE.
I mean, the whole concept of the show is that they live in an infinite multiverse where there’s millions of different versions of themselves, so it is actually odd they’ve never done an episode where Rick and Morty meet gender swapped versions of themselves.
so... its an animated version of quantum leap but with less likeable characters? sounds lame
Kinda I guess.
I’ll be the odd man out and admit I still enjoy a lot of the older episodes. I think they had a good concept that really let them go ham with goofy SciFi concepts. Problem is the writers refused to confront the shows Internal contradictions and so, much like capitalism, they accelerated till they fucked everything up.
Thing is it’s not paying off for them, even the cringe ass fans admit the last season sucked and Harmon alcoholism has probably ruined any chance for another one.
They like it because they think they are Rick and they're so fucking clueless that they don't get the not very subtle at all subtext about him. Rick is a fuckup who is absolutely miserable and in spite of what he says, it's not his intelligence that stops him functioning and developing interpersonal, genuine relationships with others. It's that he's a fundamentally selfish and lazy person.
It's Walter White all over again. Clueless pricks who can't get their heads around the concept that a protagonist may not be likeable or good. Same dumbfucks who probably wank off to STEM and ridicule the humanities subjects they so sorely need an education in.
I've never met one of these people in real life which leads me to believe one of two things: A) They know what they believe is actually too embarrassing to be stated while looking another person in the eyes B) All of the people that believe this shit are tendie eating dwellers.
Is it?
I know it’s associated with a certain type of person who often do have autism, but I think it’s harmful to assume everyone like that must have autism. Some people live like that just because they’re selfish and lazy, not out of any disability.
There’s nothing about being a basement dwelling terminally online weirdo to autism. Sure some autistic are like that but many if not most aren’t, and most people that way aren’t autistic.
Now if someone is making sounds or physical gestures meant to mock autistic while mocking those people, yeah we got a problem. But really the rest of it is just mocking Internet neckbeards. If we associate all that with autism it would mean mocking the likes of Vaush or Notch is mocking autistic people.
Sure some autistic are like that but many if not most aren’t
That's exactly what a stereotype is...
if someone is making sounds or physical gestures
Because that's all autism is? Sounds and gestures?
mocking the likes of Vaush or Notch is mocking autistic people.
When has the tendies meme every been associated with someone like Vaush or Notch?
How about when an autistic person tells you it's a harmful stereotype, listen to them instead of making excuses.
I’ve seen it used to mock Notch specifically, idk about Vaush
Alright fine if that’s how the autistic community feels I’ll take your word for it but it is news to me, and I am myself in the spectrum FYI
I did not intentionally mean to insult autistic people. I genuinely just meant spoiled early 20 somethings that probably still live at home, have very little life experience, and still have mummy serve them food.

Which is a stereotype of autism. I'm sure you weren't meaning to insult, but the meme is based on a stereotype.
Does the post bother you and would you like me to delete it? We're a community. Even if it's just an online lynch mob.
Nah it's fine, I just want to point it out in hopes people will use it less in the future.
Yes but tendie makes it seem more pathetic so it gets the point across better
I think I did came across with them. It made me preemptively forgive anything Stalin or whoever might have ever done.
School isn't a waste of time, your school not demonstrating how your studies are being applied is what is a waste. All the teenaged kids who come up with cures for whatever aren't going to your poor shithole schools.
one big OOF he US Government has made is that by defunding education and not allowing people to apply what they're learning, they de-legitimized EVERYTHING. science denial goes hand in hand with people learning stuff in school that are just WORDS to them.
And to season all that, the fucking business of telling gullible people buying a ridiculously overpriced degree in something that don't even sound interesting will be the key to a nice stable life.

i would argue otherwise, the de-legitimization itself comes from capitalism, as every anti-scientific argument is always accompanied by how "X person just wants money" - the reign of self-interest and the profit motive are the biggest culprits of our distrust in each other and whatever institutions we have
but education does work as a counter to this: despite knowing that companies lie for profit, you're smart enough to not let that knowledge turn into conspiracy theories
so it's not really that lack of education causes science denial by itself: it just keeps you from creating this barrier
I'll always remember the guy at my old job who had a framed picture of Rick from Rick and Morty on his desk who got fired after two weeks
There really is no further context lol, it was a shitty workplace where all staff positions at middle management and below were a revolving door, but I remember him because of the picture and how especially quickly he was kicked out the door
I think a big part of being an ancap is just being a generic contrarian to progressives mixed with being the poor mans conspiracy theorist.
Step 1. I'd love it if I was able to do loads of drugs and basically do whatever the fuck I wanted.
Step 2. But if everyonewas allowed to do what they want then the poors might take away my trust fund.
Step 3. Ancap
I mean if you have a big enough trust fund you should be able to get just about any drug you want, provided you have like... friends
When you're a reactionary but resent your mom for making you clean your room, stop smoking pot, and go to church on Sundays.
Lmfao yes we should all be like the magic drunk science wizard. I swear that show has the dumbest fucking fans on the planet.
Man, if I could go to a tuition free trade school right now I probably would. Did college, turns out I’m not cut out for kissing ass to get a low end job just so I can say, “I work in news media.” But I don’t mind being a hard worker and doing hard physical work, and I don’t mind getting dirty so I’d probably be a mechanic. Shit...even without tuition free trade school I might look into this and I hate car culture! Then again I don’t hate cars per se, I just hate the American culture around them and how some guys talk about cars.
