There's a bunch of good subreddits which have communities not replicated anywhere else. Of course, none of them are political because everything political on Reddit is trash since they banned us.
/r/askhistorians is priceless
/r/drugnerds and /r/askdrugnerds are two of my favourites, though Bluelight covers the same territory.
/r/depressionregimens is a pretty great mental health support community.
There's a bunch of other decent subs, but these are some of the few which account for why I continue to visit the cursed site.
We need to do a leftist mental health support community.
/r/depressionregimes is a pretty great mental health support community.
What sub did you mean? I think you made a typo because depression regimes is not a real sub at this time
Sorry about that, my shitty sleeping drug makes me dumb in the morning.
https://www.reddit.com/r/depressionregimens/
Kind of a Freudian typo in a sense; a depression regime shows where my mind is at.
I love finding out about this sort of esoteric community (https://www.reddit.com/r/9M9H9E9/ is another one I like). Thanks for sharing <3
The complete story is available in chronological order as a download. There's a link in the sidebar. The body horror aspect distracted me, so I never noticed the similar written style to Pynchon (particularly Gravity's Rainbow).
There's a really great summary of the storyline on youtube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6qCvDceFro
Along with a reading of the early parts of the story - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JSzlgsmv9nw&t=326s
r/askhistorians may be the only part of reddit that I would be pained to see go
It's without exaggeration one of the best things on the internet. Also proof that extremely strict moderation has its place when the goal is clarity rather than community.
I deleted my main when Chapo got banned but I have another I use for local news and a few hobbies.
As an aside, I had a post on my main that hit the front page, something like 30k upvotes. That unlocked some secret sub for people who have posted and hit the front page. If you think normal reddit is insufferable OMG, you have no idea. That secret sub was a black hole o'cringe...
pic's or it didn't happen, also I'm kinda curious of what horrors the blak hole contains :)
I deleted that account so it's gone. It was just circlejerking about my cute doggo and people constantly saying "wow this is a cool club we're all in here"
There are so many secret subs like that. They have an entire goddamn network. I got invited to several of them, and they're all as bad as you'd expect.
That's how we do lib outreach though. People on other subs used to find r/chapo looking through our post history, so we should all make posts to our own account pages with the link to this site and pin them
lol, no, just as someone coming from the astro’s sub I know how weird sports subs can be. after the joe kelly shit r/baseball and r/dodgers were pretty awful for a while, saying they wished Correa got hit. don’t get me wrong, I’m pissed at my team, but I don’t want the guy to get killed
Yes I'm only using reddit now for hobby type stuff, and occasionally attempting to 'debate' libs if I have the energy. Definitely using it way less.
I only browse 1 subreddit anymore, a tiny one dedicated to a book series called Cradle (a highly addictive anime- and wuxia/xianxia-inspired fantasy series that's pretty much entirely apolitical) and other books by the same author. If not for that, I'd have abandoned Reddit and never looked back.
wuxia ... entirely apolitical
Hold up. How’s that work? Isn’t the jianghu life all about being a morally upright badass even if it’s not in a way that the indolent and corrupt power structure approves?
So the world is structured in an extremely hierarchical way, as you'd expect in a world where individuals can become so powerful as to be nigh unto invincible against anyone at a lower stage of advancement. But the series makes no effort to glorify this state of affairs. The protagonist is morally upright but is both initially too weak to actually change anything and focused pretty much entirely on advancing, so as to save his homeland from destruction by what amounts to a natural disaster (it's actually a mindlessly destructive, incredibly powerful being).
Also, the author doesn't like politics (there's a line in one of the books that's similar to Ben Shapiro's "facts don't care about your feelings" but the author has confirmed on the subreddit that he had never heard of Shapiro when he wrote it, and in subsequent discussion made clear that he isn't really interested in politics at all). He does do a good job with female characters, though (they're just as relevant as male characters in this world/multiverse), which is cool.
Politically, the only thing I find rewarding is dunking on libs. But it basically makes me a troll. I still like dunking on libs but it’s not exactly rewarding for my mental health.
I’m going to keep reddit for hobbyist shit like growing vegetables and skateboarding but god damn if I’m not sick of constant sinophobic bullshit
I'm a hockey fan, so I like going on there for hockey shit. But all the users in that sub are dumb as fuck too. McDavid should not be moved to the wing, you absolute morons. Reddit really does suck and it's 90% the userbase that makes it terrible.
i used to have the chapo reddit on my sidebar so since the ban every time i thought about going into reddit i would see that ban and close the site
fuck reddit all my homies hate reddit
I logged off reddit when the lemmy went live :chavez-salute:
Don't even try to browse r/formula1 now. Basically tonnes of racism against the only black driver, and possibly greatest driver in the history of the spot, Lewis Hamilton
Yeah nba is trash. Every Lebron post is just HK whattaboutism aka racism. I’ve been slowly getting sports out of my life. I kind of like it.
Use this opportunity to get more involved in your local city subreddit :)
