Dude was walking up to police with his hand out. They keep killing my people. It's so exhausting.
Edit: He might have a knife. I'm not sure if he does or if police are being scummy police.
Edit: Witnesses said he had a knife so that might just be true.
you can see something in his right hand at the beginning of the vid, which the woman behind him is trying to take away... but it doesnt really look much like a knife, so idk wtf it is
either way, having a weapon does not give cops the right to murder someone. especially not a "knife"
stab vests are a thing, tasers are a thing, but beyond all that, deescalation is a thing.
ACAB
Those cops knew that if they deescalated, they might get fired for it. ACAB.
yeah but they didnt even need to deescalate to not kill somebody.
like, ive disarmed someone with a knife before. no one got shot or stabbed. just another tuesday in the kitchen and kyle had to be fired.
shits unacceptable
The woman at the beginning of the clip is all the proof you need this could have been deescalated. She literally went up to him and tried to grab the knife or whatever.
If she pulled a gun on him, had him in his sights, and had a systemic reputation of shooting first and asking questions later, something tells me she wouldn't have been able to do approach him so easily. 🤔🤔🤔🤔
cops watching a woman try and fail to disarm a man for at least a full minute with no danger or threat to her person: this man must be shot at least a dozen times!
While I agree with most of what you said, if someone is coming at me with a knife and I have a gun, I am shooting them. For one, a stab vest is gonna do jackshit when I stab you in the neck and tasers fail a good amount of times since they depend on prodes actually hitting your skin and both have to hit. When in close combat, you are better off just hitting someone on the head with the taser then actually firing.
Maybe it's because of where I grew up and I have seen my fair share of stabbings, having hands cut off and getting gutted, but if you within 3 meters of me with a knife, I ain't gonna be deescalating you and playing nice with you, it's life or death and I ain't taking my chances
real fucking simple solution: dont be a cop

for you specifically. if your response to someone near you having a knife is that they should be shot, you have no business being any form of police

yes, clearly i am a suburban brat who does not know what it is like to be stabbed at all.
you are afraid of knives, and apparently poor people.
get over it.

just amusing how you think im a rich suburbanite, but you talk like one

Dude you are having a fit right now and the desperation with which you accuse someone disagreeing with you of being sheltered is disturbing.
I'm truly sorry you grew up in a situation with lots of violence born out of poverty and have had to deal with lots of trauma. But using that as justification for defaulting to violence in every tense situation... while understandable,...is messed up.
I don't claim to know or understand your situation, but I've been mugged at gun point, etc. too I'm coming from a place of legit critique and not mockery
their immediate jump after being told they speak like a rich suburbanite was to "ebonics" and not to reflect on the fact that theyd just equated being poor with being a violent criminal.
as though we didnt all just watch a man die because the cops did that same bigoted math of black=poor=criminal=imminent deadly threat.
like, i appreciate you trying to be understanding and all, but assuming im sheltered is about the least disgusting thing that was thrown out there.
Yeah there was more disgusting things but I think it's prudent to stand firm against people who try to garner support for reactionary/ racist/ fascist notions by claiming it's endemic to their experience of living in poverty. I see it too much... "calling out to attractive women is just how it is in my neighborhood lol you rich kid scolds wouldn't last a day here."
And the you see even true blue leftists rally around that because (a) the current American online left does trend college-educated white so there's collective guilt and (b) the left purports to value lived experiences as valid in building a world-view
And yeah lived experiences are valid! But when that results in a claim that is reasonable for someone in a extremely powerful and well- equipped organization to use lethal force against someone in a systemically oppressed and brutalized community because of a knife.... no no no no no
fair enough.
i genuinely just discarded that as nonsensical (shouldnt be a cop? well you grew up rich, internetperson!) and didnt consider that it might be convincing as an argument to anyone.
cause... that last bit is where im at
"when that results in claiming use of lethal force against systemically oppressed people is justified; no." to paraphrase
anyways, we're on the same page :rat-salute:
lol why are you on this board
