It's marginal at best. As an example, Pope Francis is but a figurehead, at best he'll empower a socdem movement within catholicism, at worst he'll die and be replaced by a virulent anticommunist.

Yea, I'm pretty much not the one who needs convincing organized religion and its consequences have been a disaster for mankind.

On the other hand, something spectacular like Kim's aircraft gun would make more of an impression on those who would staff these little coup teams. The taboo of the middle class never being seen punished needs to be broken at some point.

The following post is approved for use on Reddit and does not violate their rule about calls for violence, because on Reddit, states can never be held accountable for violence. (Unless China)

I hope the duly elected goverment of Bolivia, utilizes it's right to round up those responsible for the coup and has them executed on the steeps to the capital building. Then leaves the corpses out for the crows.

Here's an article from January talking about how Evangelicals in Bolivia were celebrating Morales' ouster. Read it and enjoy the delicious schadenfreude ...

“[Under Morales] we were turning into a backwards nation – people wanted to legalize abortion, to legalize gay marriage, they wanted to legalize the satanistas!” complained Aruquipa, whose business card features an image of an unborn fetus and the slogan: “Thou Shalt not Kill. Abortion is murder!”

“They don’t respect our traditions. Just because we have ancestral and cultural traditions does not mean we are satanic,” said Arison Montes, a pro-Morales activist from El Alto, a largely indigenous city near La Paz.

Though I'm sure the evangelical experience is very different in the US and Bolivia, reading that article and seeing how they refer to indigenous religious practices as "satanic"... jeezus I heard so much of that growing up in church. How any sort of indigenous religious practice is always tied to satanism.

Libs are bad, folks. But let's not forget how awful the reactionaries are, too...

I see conservatism is the same no matter where in the world you go.

First thing the new government has to do is put the coupists on house arrest if not arrest them outright. The threat of flight is to high.

An example has to be made of them.

Bolivia needs to lop off the head of their military who orchestrated this coup, arrest and speedily execute the top generals and officers who went along with it, replace them with loyalists and then go down through the ranks and look for those involved in reactionary activities and kick them out and make sure the rest receive re-education. Along with that, form, arm and train people's militias with long-rifles and other basic equipment they'd need to fight the military in an insurgency. Then go through the police, purge the top officers if they were sympathetic to the coup and its ideology and crack down on and offer re-education to the lower officers to diminish their threat.

Then you go and find the coup supporters who are in neither of those, start with those who provided material support or facilitated communications and planning with the US or other foreign nations, imprison them and seize their assets. Sick the police on any demonstrators showing support for the coup regime or a return of it, have them repress the fuck out of them if they so much as pop up their head, monitor for police disobedience and note down or purge those officers who show sympathies to them.

Ta da. You've taken good first steps to securing your country from US intervention. Now continue training, educating, and arming your people's militias and keep a close eye on your top military and police officers.

Edit: And while you're at it you need to neutralize the bourgeois press who incite with lies the people into revolt against you. Those journalists who supported the coup should be arrested and locked up and the publications who made it an official line of theirs to support the coup should be shut down. If you do not do this then all your efforts at purging the police and army will be fruitless at the end of the day.
