I'm so tired and so lonely. Everyday is a grey smear. I have serious bipolar depression, i'm single, i have a bad case of "unmarried out of work mid thirties male social isolation". And it's not just the pandemic, it's been like this since early last fall. But the pandemic and politics and the gnawing horror that every day will be the same as yesterday but worse, i just can't function in any meaningful way and I have no hope that anything better will ever happen. And my feet are cold. : (

I feel the same way and am about the same age. Just keep in mind our culture is kind of cold and lifeless. There is better out there. I've decided to move to Mexico because the culture is warm , welcoming and people celebrate life. I've had to travel a lot for work and my message is that even before Covid American culture is exceptionally bleak and cold. Plus I can't work 60 hours just to live a grey , meaningless life any longer

There is no way I can be healthy outside of the context of community and passion. Having lived here my whole life I never felt as welcome as I do in other countries :(

Are you seeking treatment? given your situation it is probably hard to. I realy hate how bad the system is at actually helping. Stay strong comrade.

Can I do anything that would make your day better? If you think it would help, you can tell me in a DM.

I have gotten very drunk. It is an improvement over sobriety because it allows one a certain distance from which the hell of existence seems comical.

What is there to do but laugh when you think of everything at once? Glad to hear you feel better.

An update on my broken hand. The company has been found to be at fault and I'll be receiving compensation, including full coverage for treatment, and pay for missed work. Woo! It pays to be union folks and folx.

Can we make it so when people type algebra it autocorrects to al-jabr to remind people where all the cool renaissance shit came from?

Pretty sure. I don't have any Arabic skills but thats the story you see in the textbooks.

Muhammad ibn Musa al-Khwarizmi. Formalized the school of maths back in 800 something

Yeah and sine, of trigonometry, comes from latin sinus which meant boobs at the time. In Arabic where the romans got trig from, sine is jiba (which for some reason was mixed up with jaib meaning tits too). Jiba comes from jya in Sankirt, full form was jya-ardha which meant chord-half. Some guy in the Indus valley like 5000 years ago was playing around with pictures of circles and lines crossing through circles and discovered trigonometry and now our words for concepts in it revolve around boobs because somebody misheard someone else in rome.

Hey mods, you’re good and thank you. I was reading through the mod logs and there’s so much crap y’all have to sort through and I really appreciate it. Take care of yourselves.

I know internet points based social credit is itself meaningless, but I love that pretty much any comment I post will always get at least one upbear, presumably from the person it's in reply to. Like I love that that level of acknowledgement exists, even if the internet is mainly a void to scream into it's really nice getting confirmation that at least one other human has read it. Way less lonely of a void compared to most.

    I'm high, love you nerds

This Labour party shit is so fucking sad. They fucking did our boy in and at the same time hurt many many people including the Jewish members they say they want to fight for. Also seeing Keir up there, taking some sort of moral high ground when the cunt literally did a hit and run a few days ago.
