“publications, films, computer games and any other goods that describe, depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence, terrorist acts or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults are not allowed."

this is ridiculously vague. you could ban almost any M-rated video game or R-rated movie under these standards

Australians are of known criminal stock. They cannot be exposed to suggestive content, it'll wake their true natures. This is genetics 101.

This is actually so vague though what the fuck.

Any media that has drug use or addiction in it? Or any MATTER OF SEX? So not even explicit things?

This bans like... literally the majority of media. What the fuck?

it's one of those laws that gets kept on the books to be selectively enforced. most media isn't banned in australia, but they could whenever they want

Too many words when they could just say "If you watch or read pedo shit and/or rape shit (drawn, animated or written) you go to Gulag".

Edit: hmm downvoted for what? Being against "hentai" CP and rape? Didn't know that's an unpopular opinion over here 👁️👄👁️

Why do you think I can't read? Because I don't give a shit about a purposely vague Australian law?

The disconnect is fairly recognizable between your comment and the reception, but honestly I don't feel like hammering out those details. I was simply relaying that the weebs took your comment for sincerity and this was obviously a bit

The CP and rape part was sincere. No idea why that's an opinion the weebs would hate… seems like the only way forward is to ban all anime.

Not that I massively care but hentai and other drawn pornography is the only kind of porn that one can argue is somewhat ethical under capitalism. It doesn't inherently involve women being sexually exploited. But in Australia they only like abuse and exploitation of real women it seems. Also women with small breasts or near flat chests are not real women but girls there according to their censorship regime I read which is massively fucked up but then again the whole place is.

Reminds me of how BDSM porn is technically illegal in the UK. While there are arguments to be made for sure about necessary censorship the idea that capitalists can make them is absurd given they sob about caring about the children but won't make sure they're fed or housed or given a decent education or not interned on camps on islands or that those children can have jobs when they grow up. It's part of morality panic and enforcement used to control and appear to be doing something for the benefit of people instead of actually doing it.

Except hentai and other fictional pornography like erotica literally does not exploit or harm anyone if your point is arguing that pornography is bad because of those reasons.

Wanking is good and fun - can someone explain why a lot of people in this thread support this? Seems really fucked.

What an absurd policy. Sure you could argue that there are depictions of pedophilia and violent sexual acts in hentai, but the traditional porn industry is literally flooded with videos of actual child porn, rape, and other horrifying crimes against real people. Absolute nonsense.
