First they came for the A-cups, and I was not a skinny Asian woman, so I did not speak out

Then they came for the loli porn, and I was not a pervert, so I did not speak out

    Then they came for the

publications, films, computer games and any other goods that describe, depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence, terrorist acts or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults

...and there was no one to speak out for me 😢

That sounds an awful lot like when the UK banned face sitting and fisting in porn.

Garbage apple doesn't fall far from the garbage tree I guess.

Isnt it like them to just buckshot to take care of a fly? Like, their censorship laws affected the standards of beauty to the point that Cosmetic surgery for Labias are common because Australia is weird about visible lips.

Was there actually something about small breasted women that they banned? I'm not googling that shit at work.

Here's what I found on it:

The Australian Censorship Board (ACB) stated that “publications which contain offensive depictions or descriptions of persons who are or appear to be persons under the age of 18 (whether they are engaged in sexual activity or not) must be classified RC (Refused Classification.)

Why not just date the 1000 year old dragon like a well adjusted furry, instead of being a weeb crypto-pedo.

But honestly if nasty porn keeps pervs off real kids I don’t really care about it.

This is a good way to think about it. The end goal is to stop kids from getting hurt. If this actually serves that goal, OK, maybe it's a workable idea if it's not stretched to absurd ends. But if this isn't connected to any real crimes with real victims, it's worse than useless.

So I remember discussing this during my undergraduate degree, and porn does not act like a pressure release valve for violent and deviant behavior. Instead it seems to normalize the behavior and make individuals more likely to act out on their fantasies.

Another interesting thing I remember is that sterilization doesn't end violent and deviant sexual behavior either. Reoffenders who were sterilized still sought control over victims and would use toys or objects to penetrate.

Any good reading recommendations on criminology? I've only read some introductory materials and once I got to the section on drug crime I started to doubt the accuracy of the rest of the source.

I would look into sociological and psychological research into this, rather than criminology, because when you're a hammer, every problem is a nail. I studied it in a sexual deviance class, which was sociology. I'll see if I can scare up some material for you.

Any anime with children in it? So Haikyu!! is banned cuz it stars teenaged boys?

Also I assume there like... not pedo Hentai, like Hentai that's about adults fucking. Fail to see how that's any worse than regular porn, probably better actually since no actors are getting exploited.

All hentai, as well as tasteful nude paintings, and written erotica depending on how you interpret the law.

This is pretty click-bait with regards to CP, Australia already had strict laws in every state prohibiting the possession, creation, or distribution, of fictional CP (regardless of chosen medium).

The laws are good; CP is bad.

If the news isn't actually clickbait, and the anti-hentai laws ('AHL') are actually written so broadly as to ban hentai as a whole I would say the AHLs are bad.

Not only could it spill over to cover stuff like fan fiction, but it'd unnecessarily clog up an already overburdened judicial system, pulling resources away from violent crimes generally.

There seems to be alot of confusion about what's actually specifically banned, so I'll make this broad statement.

If this is specifically targeting lolicon/shotacon stuff, I can see an argument for it being good.

If it's anything more than that, it's stupid.

Why is chapo so regressive on this one? Do you really think people are incapable of distinguishing between fantasy and reality only in this specific case?

That's not coming from a place of rationality, though. People having negative feelings about a thing doesn't mean it's causing a negative impact on society.

It was a weird thing that happened sometime in 2015-2016 where the terminally online left (mostly on reddit IIRC) where jettisoning people for liking things like anime (for being reactionary), for liking prog rock (for being historically pretty white, they claim), and it went further, even having people choosing being transphobic as a hill to die on, saying it’s some bourgeois decadence. It solidified my tendency as it’s rather incredibly foolish to shun members for what they like, especially when the left had Zero representation in those spaces.

I like to think we’ve gotten beyond all that.

Ok ok so reading the tweet a few times, it may have been phrased as the following

Australia banned A: All Hentai, CP or not B: All adult goods AND C: All anime/manga with underaged characters. This is still a good thing, as anime is reactionary

      as anime is reactionary

How so? We've discussed how anime fans tend to skew reactionary for a number of reasons, but I don't see how you can paint the entire medium as being inherently bad.

Because most anime from Japan reflects Japanese culture, which is heavily reactionary. It’s the same way that American movies reflect American reactionary values. What anime is popular rn?

I see your point, though I wouldn't call all American cinema reactionary either. The big pictures from major studios? Absolutely. But it's not great analysis to overgeneralize entire mediums of art.

I don't watch much anime tbh so I'm not too in the know about what's popular right now.

The vast majority of American cinema is reactionary enough. If I handed you a bowl of fruit loops and only 4 of the pieces didn’t contain Ricin, you’d throw the entire bowl away. If something is too corrupt and too broken, you disown and work against it.

            Name a popular anime.
