Yeah a bunch of his fans are like "why are you publicly doing this?" and she's had to repeatedly say that he won't stop behaving like they are friends and his fans keep bothering her about it. I kinda feel bad because I know people who develop parasocial relationships because they are on the spectrum or have legitimate psychosis, but at the same time Bob is a creep and it sounds like she has been trying to get him to stop doing this for a while.

If a grown ass man can't take the hint after years, what are you going to do, be their pseudo-friend out of charity

Also there's "can't take the hint" and "refuses to listen," and it falls into the latter category pretty fucking often when an attractive woman is involved

I think some guys are ahead of society on the whole non-monogamy thing. And deficient in social skills (to put it diplomatically). It's an especially awkward combination. and one that is attracted to fandom, especially SFF fandom.

idk. like my boyfriend is hypothetically ok with me fooling around with women but not with men. and tbh i dont really see anything wrong with that, hes already a beefcake having more than one beefcake is overindulgence. and i think thats a common stereotype among straight men, they are ok with their bi girlfriends fooling around with other girls

I'm absolutely not shitting on people who choose their relationship structures deliberately. No other man, no other problem. That said, when I was adjacent to them a while ago, a sizable part of the poly community (which is not representative of ethical non-monogamy in general, and is lib af, but is very much woman-led) considered one-penis policies sexist, because they deprecate girl-girlsex as less real or less salient, and heteronormative, because they perform and thus validate a patriarchal norm.

Looks like I gotta train for a struggle session.

maybe, i think he'd just feel jealous because what if the guy is hotter or something? like i kinda feel a similar way about him fooling around with other women. they have vaginas and i dont, and that would make me feel less-than. whereas if im fucking a girl, my boyfriend isnt a girl so he feels less insecure because its a different kind of attraction.

and also we both have penises so i suppose our policy would be a two penis policy lmfao. though he also extends his thing to trans women too so its less genitals based lol

Cisgenderist synecdoche? In my dated feminist theory?

It's more likely than you think.

Poly theory was just starting to accommodate transgenderism when I left the lifestyle communities, so I'll keep my whore mouth shut until I know something without the stench of TERFism wafting from it.

it can be sexist but it really doesn't have to be. they might just be cool with their partner doing something they can't provide on their own.

I know someone who watched Moviebob try and flirt with a cosplayer in a cafeteria at a convention by making fun of a kid who had bought soup and bread (the cheapest thing on the menu) and paid for it in coins they'd clearly scraped together.

Moviebob thought the best way to endear himself to an attractive woman was to make fun of a poor person who'd obviously spent all their money just getting to the convention. Moviebob thought that woukd be funny and endearing.

        100%. It's fucked.

I can't imagine being that kid and spending nearly all my money on con tickets and travel and finding I have just enough money to eat something as well if I add up all my coins... Only to be made fun of for it by someone who isn't a convention attendee but an actual convention guest who is there to meet his fans who is being fucking paid to be there. Like how much of a prick do you have to be to try and make someone feel bad for eating soup and bread alone and paying in coins to begin with? But to assume that making fun of a poor kid was so universally acceptable it would be a good way to try and flirt with someone is just... Fuck moviebob. Seriously.

When someone told me this, I thought it was gonna end with Bob paying for his meal and that I would have to admit that I had misjudged Bob. It didn't even occur to me that it would end another way.

Remember when a queer southerner told him he’s generalization of the south as deep fried religious bigots lead to genuine discomfort for those like them and Bob’s response was to go “I’m allowed to because people make fun of me as a city elite”

        That was a moment

He's the classic nazi nerd. He was bullied in high school, got a complex about how much smarter and superior he was to those rubes and jocks, then he entered the real world and his expectations were not met. Instead of sobering up and facing the music, he decided that someone must have taken his rightfully earned success and they should be punished

My cringe opinion is his film reviews aren't actually bad.

I disagree sometimes but he's generally really sober and extremely knowledgeable. His culture critic stuff is usually cringe at best, but occasionally he's put out some really good pop culture history stuff. Unironically a person who really, really, needs to stick to their lane and stop tweeting & having awful opinions on politics

Yeah it really just makes me sad because I've followed his nerdy media history/analysis stuff for a long time and he's usually quite good on that front, he's just such a massive idiot on every other topic. I wish he had more self awareness.

Lindsay Ellis: Left-ish YouTuber who makes video essays about movies and theater. MovieBob Chipman: I think also a movie YouTuber, but he became a left-twitter villain for his particular brand of alt-centrism. The dude truly seems to have a hatred for the poor, and thinks if you live anywhere other than the coast, you are racist and deserve to get left behind in our new techno-utopia.

Genuinely so off-putting. :/ I hope I never become like that and I hope I can understand hints to dissuade me if I ever enter that realm.

His film criticism genuinely interested me about 10 -5 years ago, but his unironic loving of neoliberalism (which he probably has a different definition of), his value of class being based almost entirely on culture and huge Lib energy RE electoralism is so grating.

I dunno, Lindsay is ok. She seems like the kind of person who has decent values filtered through her relatively upper-class experience.

She's Carlos Maza tier. Not bad, but not based either.
