Everything at Amazon is done by algorithms. Firing, for Amazon Logistics (shipping-related not tech side) is done by algorithms. And you can't get anyone to override it. The algorithms are "ratcheting", increasing the workload as the workers work faster, until they can't keep up and get auto-fired. (Somewhat like this [clip from "I love Lucy"]: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NkQ58I53mjk). Packing and shipping jobs at Amazon are the same way. And you always have to work faster but maintain the same level of "accuracy"/performance or you get fired. The nice thing is it's not a "political" job where maintenance of employment is based on interpersonal BS - if you do the work properly you keep the job. Keep the algorithms happy & you're good.

depends. if they said in the job listing you have to be available for any shift, then yea. but there are jobs where when you apply its for a specific shift.
