Well this is how I found out the salvation army are shitty, thank you comrade. Sorry for any help I gave a shit organisation. I will do better from now on.
As a child I was in a program similar to JROTC for some reason, and one time we helped do the bell ringing. The fucking salvation army guy handed me a stack of pamphlets to hand out too- I took a peek and they were just straight up religious.
The JROTC like thing was literally funded by the department of defense, and they had literally already told us it was illegal to wear our uniforms to any kind of political demonstration etc.
I was only like 13 and I knew that shit had just gone from borderline to fully illegal, so I stuffed all their shit in the K Mart trash can.
Anti-lgbtq and anti-union.
Here's a song Joe Hill wrote for the IWW wrote about them. It's where we get the term "pie in the sky".
Don't they also pay disabled workers way less than minimum wage as well?
also shit. their online marketplace is a complete mark-up scam, pricing out the people again from quality items that would otherwise be attained 2nd hand thru searching. they killed the "treasure-hunt" basically.
They are homophobic as shit, take a cut from the donations and treat homeless people badly.
wow they suck, the big Nonprofits always have to steal the money fron the donations like the telethon in chile and mexico
they pretend to be willing to help people because that's what jesus was about, but instead of helping they just want to get you to believe in jesus
Sucks that they're basically the only thrift stores in my town, half my closet is via "donations" to them. The other half is from other thrift stores that are also problematic lol
no ethical consumption under capitalism
unless you plan on growing your own flax and making linen to clothe yourself... but then where will you get the flax seeds? gonna build your own loom?
:stalin-stressed:
Donate to your local food bank instead if you actually want to feed people.
Local not for profit thrift shops. In my town I have Salvation army, which is anti gay among other christian beliefs, value village which is for profit so ups the price, and a few other shops not for profit or religion. The final option is the best as they act in genuine interest of the people.
