Huh I went to look it up and he does pronounce R's funny. Not sure if he had some sort of speech disorder or if he had an unusual dialect from all his travels. It sounds like a normal uvular R (like a French R) to me, maybe he picked it up in Switzerland.

I just can't see that scenario being consensual. I believe I'm remembering this right too, but in one of Che's diary entries, he discusses a man who was going to kill Fidel, but needed to sleep next to him for warmth, and the guy never ended up trying to shoot him too.

If anyone hasn’t seen it, I highly recommend the movie The Last Emperor. Puyi wasn’t just your regular out-of-touch prick- he was basically a sadist who didn’t understand that other people actually existed, and he even collaborated with the Japanese during WWII. For Mao to have made him into a regular worthy worker like everyone else is extremely noteworthy and a testament to the Communist project in China.
Also it’s like 4 hours long so get nice and snug beforehand.

Fantastic movie I agree, but also read up on Puyi after. The movie leaves out, for instance, Puyis hobby of raping his boy servents, beating his eunuchs, wife, etc

A lot of the details of Che & Castro's early friendship really gets to me. I love when you can tell two people truly cared for each other and were better people for it.
