So many of their “icons” basically boil down to “I go to colleges and troll people” (to the point of 30 year old losers like Ben shapiro still hanging out at and constantly talking about college campuses).

It feels like higher education is less and less relevant to material reality, it just seems such a bizarre area for them to focus so much propagandistic effort towards.

Because the only way they can "win " a "debate" is by finding an 18yo radlib that was already crying before they got to them, and then just abusing them on camera.

Unless it's poopoo bennet, she's so fucking bad that even radlibs own her on camera. The "Yeah I suck dick for Communism" dude (absolute chad) obliterated her sorry poopoo ass.

I'm pretty sure she has an editor, I don't think she does the editing herself. It may not even be her own channel. Either way, I can't help but assume that somebody involved is getting something out of making her look like an idiot, because it seems to me that it's a conscious decision to leave that stuff in the videos.

You can search for the original video on their channel (Liberty Hangout, Commies on Campus.. ugh) but I wouldn't see it there, don't give these fuckers any views.

It's a psyop on behalf of the right-wing billionaires that fund them in order to provide cover for the corporate takeover of public universities. It taps into the emotions of all the schmucks who didn't have a big social life in college and are looking for someone/something to blame that on.

Don’t mind the general thrust of your argument but gonna push back on the idea that college educated people are likely to be a proletarian vanguard. College is a factory for churning out people who are married to the status quo.

If you think Ho Chi Minh studying with Vietnamese radicals in France is equivalent to some middle class kid in America doing an Econ degree I don’t know what to tell ya. For every revolutionary that was highly educated there’s another that came from nothing. Malcolm X radicalised in prison after a life of petty crime.

If the American college system is such a fertile breeding ground for revolutionary thought, where are all the revolutionaries? Surely it should have produced a single one in the last fifty years?

I’d say like so many things, academia has been almost fully captured and neutered by capital. Unions were once a radical force of worker power, this is generally untrue now as well. Do colleges give some people the critical thinking skills that point them on the road to socialism? Sure. But any worker can go down the same road without the formal education. Not to mention, universities create plenty of reactionaries as well - “Chicago Boys” anyone?

100% true. This is essentially the deal with Charlie Kirk. He was pissed off he didn't get accepted into West Point, so he blames it on liberalism and "the left" while taking Koch money to run TP USA.

Also literally left leaning professors are actually being discriminated against because of conservative backlash. They’re far more likely to lose their jobs or not be hired in the first place.

Secondthought did a YouTube video and talked about this exact type of censorship but unfortunately I’m not able to get on YouTube at the moment so if another kind person could link the video that would be great

I've been to two massive research universities in the social sciences (undergrad and phd) and couldn't name a single 'marxist' professor at any of them, let alone barely any who even really had us read leftist theory.

it's a completely made up bullshit red scare to paint anyone left of right as horrible communists, and its fucking working.

College campuses are filled with radlibs, idpol, and zero class consciousness, in my experience. Many students have good intentions but don't really know what they're talking about, which leads to things like woke segregation and oppression olympics.

Some radlibs are just like chuds in that they see the contradictions of capitalism and how unjust everything is but they don’t have the language to articulate it

While college is lib and capitalist, it is also the main place people learn about the world, so it needs to be discredited, along with all knowledge that goes against capitalism. But also Benny is just working the algorithm and the rage machine is working

It's been widely said that both Libs and Chuds are obsessed with ideological battles; They lost all hope in any political action, and they don't want to change a thing in this dying system. So instead the "debate" is about who gets fucked first and how nice or naughty they are going to go about it.

I feel college campuses are kind of a symbol to these people (and media as well to an extent.) Since you can't change anything except subjectivity; Then controlling the places where subjectivity is spread means "power"

Because they hate higher education. The masses being educated means less underqualified workers that are desperate for any job you give them, no matter how shitty.

Education and a degree (used to) be a bargaining chip people could use to show they were a 'skilled worker' and therefore worth more to the employer, thus giving them a little more job protection than an 'unskilled' worker.

This is why higher education has been attacked almost as much as unions. Now disregarded by boomers as 'not experienced workers' (despite most degrees requiring practical experience) because most boomers now either own companies and want cheap exploitable labor, or entered the workforce when training came with the job. Higher Education has also now been made more and more expensive and ridiculed as elite (which it wouldn't be if education were free like it should be), further pushing the poorer classes out of the realm of job security enjoyed by the wealthy. "Oh, you now have an education debt and we won't hire you (because we decided your degree is useless)? Guess you should have known your place and started burger-flipping from the start like a good little poor."

To the 1%, if you're poor then you're not worthy of an education and a good job straight out of school. To them a good job comes from pedigree and higher education is something you do for fun "Ugh, owning dads business is boring, I think I'll go be a lawyer for a few years and see what that's like" Unless you're born into wealth they expect you to show you 'of worth' by starting your own business and proving that you deserve to be part of the lineage. They need someone to clean the toilets after all, not everyone can be a part of the chosen few. The beliefs of the wealthy are very spiritual in a way. They think wealth is a gift from God to the worthy, so they value pedigree and luck-based 'merit'. They don't think that just anyone can get a degree and be good at something, they believe they need that special something from god to go with it.

Remember, higher education is only elitist because they put a price tag on it. Education is a good thing and everyone deserves it.

Luckily the capitalists have managed to double dip on this one - take hundreds of thousands in loan payments from someone for their education, and they still end up as a desperate worker :porky-happy:

Old people yelling about the youth and worrying about them being corrupted and having their morals stripped away is probably as old as time. We know the ancient Greeks were bitching about their kids because they were so mad about it they bothered to write it down.

But it’s not old people. All the mouthpieces of this movement are relatively young like the poop girl and Charlie Kirk and shapiro. Sure the money might come from the Mercers but it tends to be old ass capitalists that have all the money to begin with. And they’re not just bitching about “the youth”, they’re complaining about their MARXIST PROFESSORS, the entire institution.

Good point, I just regard them as grifters getting in a tried and true grift of selling reactionary youthphobia at the old and comfortable. Could be Capitalism trying to undermine universities and privatize them all as some kind of long-con.

All good takes in here. Mine is that because education is the only real power structure the left control. Not in that we control the apparatus but physical reality does, and reality is our greatest ally. Universities even as profit mills are still a doorway to understanding reality through any sort of objective analysis.

Disenfranchising the educated is the only method to stop them becoming detractors of the capitalist state, and even then ehhhhh they still do. I've got a friend who's a biologists who's incredibly intelligent but "hates politics" as they put it and defaults to being a lib... but with their takes on society being biological, evolutionary, anthropological ect, they're always very close to supporting communism...because obviously profit killing everything on the planet is not a good evolutionary outcome.
