Subreddits have to "unlock" hd video on a player/format that doesn't even work and is glitchy as fuck (vreddit)

    lmaooo :agony-turbo:

Imagine using Reddit for video when you can just get your video hosted on YouTube with, like, eight thirty second ads in between every five minute content

Like literally the worst video player on the planet, I have no clue how they even accomplished that, maybe their devs hate reddit as well?

literally all they had to do was use html5 <video> with no modifications. it's not like they need a fancy custom player for hotkeys or preroll ads because they DON'T HAVE ANY. IT JUST PLAYS A VIDEO

Nah you don't understand, if we create our own format with shitty quality options that don't work, and the compression used is absolutele ass that requires 10mbps to play pixelated garbage (honestly YouTube at 480p looks better most of the time), and name it after the site, vreddit you see, we'll make millions as users upload their content on vreddit somehow!!!11111

Yeah it's not like YouTube operates at a loss on its own and Vimeo is dead, but surely reddit can reinvent the wheel of both video hosting, compression and playback and do it better than literally everyone else though magic somehow? Fuck it lets just add streaming too (actually exists, live streaming on reddit is possible now though broadcasts or whatever it's called)

It's really funny because people have to pay something like a dollar per minute to keep the reddit livestream going otherwise they just shut it off

I love how every thread announcing this is full of people saying, “please do something about the nazis and ban evasion and targeted harassment” and then the reddit admins are just like “WOW COMMUNITY! SO COOL! WHAT IF YOU GIVE US $3 SO YOU CAN DRESS YOUR SNOO-VATAR IN A CUTE ONESIE!!!!!!???”

(Actually it’s for people with le reddite gold, so you get a heretical party parrot onesie for your $6 ad-free redditing ... experience)

The sub being quarantined was such a blessing. Always a nasty shock to venture into other subs and get bludgeoned with ads

we should have ads on here but they're just the ads from They Live with the glasses on.

Saving this post for a couple of years when this site starts selling 'Hero of The Chapo Union' rewards to 'build productive forces'

Reddit can't die quick enough. Does reddit actually make any profit? Here's to hoping it dries up with Uber when their venture capitalist bubble bursts

Idk, 'whales' are a thing in microtransaction economies, just because on reddit the addiction being fed and what's gotten in return for the transaction is confirmation bias, ", I wouldn't at all be surprised if a couple dozen rich ghoulish people spent their time and a few gold a day worth of their money gilding china-bad posts like how someone might buy hundreds of dollars of crates or whatever in a game over years, a few at a time adding up in the background

side note: this analysis is informed by when I was a a megalib and my russiagate posts got gilded (🤮) I'd use the free gold I had to give... to gild things that fit my confirmation bias. Can only imagine how many id have done if I had a trust fund or some shit

Isn't there some weirdo who's trying to build a cult on Reddit? I don't recall his u/, but I think discussion of him popped up on SRD or some other meta sub.

So basically anyone who says his name gets their post gilded, is how I recall it working. Not sure if they're still around.

I get free points annually pretty much for modding a ~10K size sub, they're definitely not making anywhere near 100% of the awards you see given out.

Eh yeah not directly I guess. admins give out like 20K points to decent sized subs to give to top posters for the year. I’m usually one of them and I do most of the daily shit so the head mod gives me a bunch. We only have a couple dozen active posters pretty much so I can’t imagine how many points they give out to other subs.

Idk you have to take into account that the C-level people probably make a shit ton of money because they're so good at not making money.
