I’ve always wanted to get into either sailing or falconry but both are such rich hobbies and I can’t afford the entry price

a mostly self-sufficient homestead. if someone bought me a winning lottery ticket that is what i'd do right now, then invest the rest and retire + volunteer

Definitely wish I was able to save up enough money to do a food truck. Its the only way I'd ever want to cook for a living anymore. Restaurants just abuse you and grind you down. I'd never be able to afford opening my own, but I feel like I could do a truck, I do know its still tough though. But my market has a huge hole in it for what I feel like I could bring that is interesting and profitable

Where I'm at we have basically no legit BBQ, haven't seen any trucks doing it either. I've got recipes I've perfected over time too that I just call grub, like jalapeño bacon mac and cheese lightly smoked, I also have other sides like stuffing(dressing) with some extra veg and stuff like breakfast sausage or honey ham. Just basically like comfort food in a sense, but just with a bit of my own style on jt.

that sounds awesome. maybe you could try a pop up, and see whether there's an audience for it / also start building a following? I keep seeing that couple on reddit in kitchen confidential who started a dumpling pop-up in Milwaukie last month and have sold out every weekend in less than 10 minutes.

ah a regular chip off the old Ken Block, always wanted to try it but also looks terrifying. Have you heard the donut media podcast episode about Michele Mouton? It's a must listen

    I second falconry.

I've always wanted to start a community permaculture farm, that and I want to just be able to finish my degree and devote myself to study without having to worry about money.

If you're in the right city for it, sailing can actually be a really cheap thing to get into - some rich guy buys the boat and wants to do a bunch of races on it but it's really hard to keep a consistent crew so they're always looking for blow-ins. On 30-50 foot boats there's room for people who maybe don't know much but can mostly act as extra weight to hang over the side while they learn, and there's usually casual beer races that are less serious and don't have spinnakers upping the stakes. You can get on lists at a club for callup whenever they need people, the price of entry is really a six pack of beer and a pair of boat gloves. And the rich prick who owns the boat gets stuck with all the bills when all the expensive shit inevitably breaks. Fair warning though, you have to put up with a LOOOOT of chuds.

Offshores have a higher cost of entry cos of all the gear you need but honestly I reckon the sucky bits outweigh the good bits in offshores generally. But if you get to know the right people you can hitch a free ride on deliveries as a spare pair of hands, which is a lot more chill

HEMA. I love the idea of consensually hitting people with swords in a as-historically-accurate-as-is-possible-and-safe manner but unfortunately because it's pretty niche the 'safe' part of is that fuckin expensive. And the 'sword' part really, they're not exactly mass-produced you gotta like, pay individual smiths, and they're not cheap. Justifiably so.
