The first female flogger preparing to whip a woman in public, in Banda Aceh, after she was caught in close proximity with a man who is not her husband in a hotel.

It sucks that we have theocracies here in the 21st century

Personally I'd prefer to get whipped raw than have years of my life eaten by prison time.

Any particular reason? The idea of losing years of my life terrifies me.

It's less that aspect and more just the permanence of it. Yeah, getting beaten or caned or whipped or whatever sucks, but it's theoretically just pain. It's over after a while, you heal up, you move on. Prison carries the risk of that and worse physical abuse, in addition to the various mental punishments inherent to being locked in a cage long-term.

. You know if Palestine was free, they would also have Sharia?

Being a source of legistlation and being *the * legistlation are different. For example Saudi Arabia doesn't have a constitution, it has the Quran in it's stead. Most Muslim countries aren't that hardcore. Besides they have long history with secularism and a significant Christian population.

. What entity do you imagine is in position to lead an independent Palestine that would do otherwise?

Well the leading parties in Palestine include the PFLP which is marxist leninist and the PLO which is secularist, the third is well..hamas. But my point is it's a) not the guaranteed win for Sharia some people think it is. b) there's like 50 Muslim majority country, most of which aren't secular but only Saudi Arabia and Iran are the Sharia dystopias with caning and patriarchy on steroids conservatives talk about. Tunisia too has Islam as a source of legistlation and it's lib as hell.
