    Fidel Castro, History Will Absolve Me

    For the uninitiated, Castro's first attempt to overthrow the Batista dictatorship was an attack on the Moncada Barracks in the summer of 1953. It failed, and he was captured. At least 50 other rebels who participated in the attack were executed. Castro defended himself in court, gave a four-hour speech by heart at his sentencing, and unapologetically concluded with "La historia me absolverá." It did, and after the successful 1959 revolution he personally bulldozed the perimeter walls of the Moncada Barracks and turned the buildings into a school.

      NYE has always had that feeling for me. So much expectations built into it that when the clock ticks midnight you realize "oh yeah its not actually anything different" and immediately get dejected.

        Yeah that's a big part of it. Started the year in a supervisor-ish position where I work, but ended up going back to my old position because the manager's expectations of me were ridiculous. Socially I was finally opening up to a few of my co-workers whom I'm good friends with, but after the pandemic hit we kind of just stopped talking because we all suck at staying in contact with each other. Had some issues within the family as well. And my job search went no where despite my best effort in years to actually get a new job. Just an al around sucky year and its still not looking all that up.

    Damn, looking back at my reading list for 2020, this was the first year i actually read theory. Lenin, Marx, Bread Daddy, Parenti, Mao, and Luxemburg. Not bad.

    I also starting calling myself a communist this year instead of calling myself a demsoc :lenin-shining:
