Bear with me for a second. Everyone is supposed to be ecstatic about the inauguration. But on all social media the response of even centrists was to relate to the Bernie meme. The guy is a soc dem at best but let's be real here: the fact that there is so much grass roots support for him when even his milquetoast policies are roundly attacked on the major networks tells us something about how people are feeling when they're being told to celebrate the best day ever. People are in despair. They can't join in on the celebrations because they're in a pandemic. It's insane. And every centrist in the country knows it.

In the summer, at the height of the BLM uprising when US flags were burning, DC was on fire, twitter felt like a fucking socialist website with so many leftists upvoted into the hundreds of thousands.

We're the only ones with a culture of telling plausible stories about crises and ruptures. So when SHTF, we come out on top. The reactionary media is stuck in it's own bubble, while liberal media must pretend that BLM is the normal course of democracy.

We're the only ones able to reach out to the mainstream and say "this is an uprising. Here's how to help."

They want to recreate the Trump magic and have an army of fiercely loyal morons . What they don't understand is that Trump has that magic because he's TRUMP. Basically no one in the Democratic Party has that because people who "have that" don't become career politicians!

I'm not sure if they were pissed off. There was that one tweet in the_dunk_tank about how he hated women because of his mittens, but as a chapo commenter accurately noted that didn't actually get any traction and my lib friends seemed to just be loving the Bernie photoshopped into random scenes from pop culture meme. I didn't read it as broadly negative.

Bernie needs to go ape shit and endorse somebody even further left than he is in the next presidential cycle if he wants to have a major and lasting impact on the left in this country

What, they put a fuckload of plastic flags in a field just so that shitters like you could feel included in the party! They did that to honor you, you ungrateful pleb, and all you can do is post online about that sexist monster Bernie Sanders? You bernie bros are so out of touch with racist PMC ghouls such as myself, HARUMPH

Problem is there’s sentiment not structure and without structure you’re SoL.

Or rather the situation is even more dire, the right has all the sentiment and zero structure (see: the riot in the capitol) but the left has a rising sentiment and is still trapped in by the structure of liberal electoralism which dissipates the sentiment (see: virtually every left figurehead buying into the “Dems are the lesser evil” lie). The far right has properly radicalized and now exists outside the structure of bourgeois democracy but they’re left afloat with no direction because they have no leadership and no true material politics. They’re just furious and know the standard institutions are bullshit. The left has a rising tide of dissatisfaction with the institutions of liberalism but has not fully careened off into radicalization writ large because they haven’t had a figure lead them there like Trump has for the right. Sanders’ attacks on the status quo were left for private corporations and specific political figures, not democratic institutions at large. People might be pissed and dissatisfied with where this ended up per your point about the Sanders meme, but they don’t have a direction to face that anger and will likely fall in line behind their favored media personality’s opinion toward anger at Mitch, anger at Biden but not democrats writ large, or even anger at Democrats but only “current” democrats and actually the Supreme Court is a good thing sweaty.

it's maddening that many of the same libs who are so scared of change will now wax nostalgic about cute old Bernie
