California Governor Gavin Newsom's office has decided to lift the orders as ICU availability in the regions that remained under the stay-at-home order, including the Bay area and Southern California are projected to rise above the 15% threshold that triggered the lockdown measures, according https://bit.ly/3sSPOfp to San Francisco Chronicle.

According to the report, counties will move back to the tiered system, with most regions across the state expected to move into the purple tier, meaning personal care services like hair salons can re-open with modifications and restaurants can open for outdoor service.

There's no planning involved in this. Live everything else in capitalism, it's pure improvisation and catering to the whims of the rich and powerful.

The countries that have this under control, which is mainly and most of Asia, should really get serious about travel bans from high risk countries.

This is exactly what Trump meant when he flippantly said that Covid would "go away after the election" lmfao.

So basically "we have ICU beds available so let's let people go get Covid so we can fill them"

Yes capitalism is SURELY the best system. The very best

Shitty part is that the major cities don’t have that capacity. Like, wtf is LA supposed to? Oh wait, more than 2/3s of those in ICU are brown and black ppl.

Projected to rise above the threshold when the fact that a new more infectious variant is now in the state and beginning to spread, is ignored.

Almost like they've been making it up as they go to keep people in a state of panic. Couldn't be my beloved "experts" and journalists though, they use science to speak truth to power!

Or there really are new variants because governments put profits before people and in doing so unwittingly created the perfect conditions to encourage viral mutations.

JFC, lay off the fucking conspiracy theories.

My read was that they're making up the response as they go, not making up the existence of new strains

Hmm, maybe, but I'm not so sure about that. I have been dealing a lot with the people thinking it's a hoax or blown out of proportion in order to control society, though, so I'm definitely primed by now to interpret it that way.

"to keep people in a state of panic" makes me think that they're subscribing to the social control hoax conspiracy theory. The people that believe it's all a hoax, and whenever the public starts to figure it out, they have to invent new details in order to keep us subservient and fearful.

i mean, there are some happening. it's just that these are painfully stupid and going to get a lot of people killed. have gotten a lot of people killed.

the conspiracy is capitalism keeping us from actually fixing literally any problems.

My boss: "you took two pills? You look better than yesterday; I need you back on the line tomorrow. No, don't take more pills; it would look bad to the other employees. Otherwise you're fired."

Wouldn't it be awesome if that theory was true though? If the numbers were somehow inflated in the fall as a trick to not only make Trump look bad, but also to scare Americans into really taking COVID seriously to the point that we actually got rid of it without knowing it, that would rule. And then when Biden comes in, they reveal what they had done.

In reality, we only take it seriously when its out of control. And when its looking only mildly serious, we try to save our businesses, at the expense of ourselves again. I have a feeling we're never going to get rid of this. In fact, considering the mutations, this could be something much bigger than we realize right now. This could be really rip through civilization for years.

My area just re-opened indoor dining this weekend because the positivity rate fell below 5% for the first time since October. Any bets on how long it stays under 5%? They also opened the vaccine up to anyone 65 or older, and essential workers today, but there are no appointments because nobody has any doses.
