There's a Twitter clip of Rachel Maddow creaming her jeans about Schumer finally beating McConnell at something.

Absolute fool, McConnell sat back and watched the Democrats destroy themselves.

I watched that segment earlier. Embarassing. Watched the whole lineup actually. These people have never been happier. Squarejaw (O'Donnel?) brought a republican on to talk unity. They are really fine with this

    I'm calling it now:

The Democrats, in an attempt to muster bipartisan support, enshrine the fillibuster as a constitutional amendment. In response, the Republicans proceed to fillibuster all legislation for the next ~3 yrs, winning midterms and in 2024. The domcrats decide not to fillibuster as a minority.

No, see, obviously we have to win the senate by a 10 seat majority. The goalpost was actually over here the entire time as you should have known.

Keeping the filibuster is a fundamentally ideological position. It means that except what you can pass one a year through budget reconciliation, you can't do shit. It favors the conservatives in a chamber that is already shaped by white supremacy and minority rule.

I am also expecting the Dems to use reconciliation for something smaller, or use it to pass a compromise bill negotiated with the Republicans (that the Republicans then proceed to filibuster anyway).

my friend who voted for biden was like "yeah but this was probably always gonna happen"

i think he's got the noam mentality of "you have to vote for them but it won't do enough." i don't get it.

Eh, I kind of get that mentality. Voting - for most of us, at least - is pretty effortless and if there's a 0.1% chance the Democrats either do something or prevent the GOP from just doing completely monstrous shit you might as well spend ten minute filling in the bubble and mailing the ballot back. Like, not much to lose not much to gain.
