I checked this site every few hours but somehow still missed what the fuck this "vocal fry" thing is
I mean... I got that Fry, when u spend the entirety of your teenage girlhood in California with other teenage girls it’s extremely common. Idrc about jokes about it or the Red Scare chicks but the way a lot of posters’ kneejerk reaction has been to deny that these kinds of unconscious biases could possibly exist just makes it feel like I’m on Reddit again lol.
Vocal fry is not even a specifically female thing. There's a dialect coach on YouTube who talked about it a bit and men do it too.
Someone can find something auditory not pleasing but when your criticism of content is based on "vocal fry" and that creator is female there is an undercurrent of misogyny.
I don’t give a shit about vocal fry personally. Find it a little grating when people seem to be intentionally exaggerating it but otherwise whatever.
This is the first time I’ve heard vocal fry mean anything other than a vocal warmup for singers
