The U.K. and California variants are each armed with enhanced capabilities, and the likelihood that they could circulate in the same population raises the specter of a return to spiking infections and deaths, Chiu said. It also opens the door to a “nightmare scenario”: That the two viruses will meet in a single person, swap their mutations and create an even more dangerous strain of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
Yeah um about that... it literally just happened lol :agony-mescaline:
Gonna be like this for fucking 5 years at this rate.
If you have the money/skills to leave the US probably get on that soon
I don't unfortunately lol
Honestly, where to? Can rule out the West aside from NZ, and then PRC or Vietnam? All places my non-credentialed ass will have extreme difficulty being accepted into.
People should stop having these ideas. All the thinking is making this worse.
These variants are definitely not being discovered anywhere near as soon as they emerge. It's kind of like rats, you only notice them once you've already got a shitload.
Nothing less than a mature, militant working-class movement. One that we won't probably have for at least another decade in an optimistic scenario where decades somehow happen in weeks at least twice in this business cycle. We have a lot of death, pain, and suffering ahead of us - not to mention a lot of mundane, joyless organizing/coalition-building - before we reach that point.
I seriously hope Indigenous peoples out west are prepared to deal with the problem of safely deactivating and disposing of nukes in a total collapse scenario. Aw who am I kidding, we'll just become Russia's and/or the PRC's vassal or something.
I wanted to travel again at some point but Yankeeland and TERF Island continue to fuck everything up. We need a UN intervention in these rogue states
Considering what the UN does to peripheral countries for the benefit of Euro-American imperialism, I would not want them involved in a military capacity. I'm wary of the PRC but would probably trust them more than the UN.
Yes, of course. But also It would be hilarious watching the Security council try to sanction a permanent member.
Does anyone know how much more effective it is at infecting vaccinated people? All I could find is someone saying “moderate but significant” which is so vague it might as well not be in the article
The whole article smacked of sensationalism. If it first emerged in May and it wasn't responsible for the huge spike that happened in California in December, then this variant is definitely not being selected for in nature.
