Look that parking lot has sentimental value and also we don't want poors in our neighborhood.
I mean it's like this guy said
This parking lot is the hub, its the heart of the community
And you folks call yourselves communists 🙄
I laugh at the idea of "the community parking lot" being like a long-treasured staple but then again I grew up in a town where some would hang out in the huge ass walmart parking lot on Friday nights in their trucks and whatnot. Bulldoze the fuck out of that community lot
I want Joni Mitchell to rewrite "Paved Paradise" in the style of Dolly Parton's "5 to 9," then throw in an unironic cover of "Mercedes Benz" and maybe just "Material Girl" as written -- you've got the start of some kind of album.
Yuppies protesting in defense of a parking lot is what happens when you refuse to invest in mass transit infrastructure for 50 years.
As someone who can barely bike down my local street for all the cars staked up along the sides of the crumbling asphalt, I am almost vaguely sympathetic to their plight.
Hope they lose and all those NIMBYs have to watch a bulldozer tear up their beloved concrete rectangle
The city has literally already said "yeah this is happening" lol. There's going to be a public consultation, but its only going to be for how its built, like aesthetic stuff.
I really think consulting with people for what happens in their neighborhood is incredibly important.
Unless the neighborhood makes over a certian amount or it's for community good (like affordable/public housing). Fuck these people.
Some of these projects are practically designed to fail.
Lower-income residents: "We need affordable housing."
Neoliberal swing-vote elected official: "Sure. Lets find the cheapest, most remote piece of real estate in town and try to throw the minimal number of new units up for the smallest price tag."
Local suburbanites who are handcuffed to car culture: "Noooooo! Not our local parking lot!"
Neoliberal swing-vote elected official: "Sorry low-income residents. It appears the middle class has cucked you again. Whelp. Off to my high-dollar corporate fundraiser to bankroll the next electoral cycle."
You got the answer below, but you can also hover your cursor over an emoji and find the code that way.
But then you’d have poor people living with you instead of next to you, and you can’t have that!!!
Ah, the bougie Houstonian's dilemma.
