As predicted countless times libs think Manchin is the only thing between them and passing the "democratic agenda" whatever that really is

I've said it before I'll say it again:

"If Dems had all 100 seats of the Senate they'd just find 51 Joe Manchins"

They had 60 votes and Lieberman was their "Manchin". They didn't want to drop the requirement to 50 votes because they would then had to find ten more "Manchins".

If he was legitimately a problem for the party they found city would cut his funding, run attack ads, run a primary challenger or do any number of things to threaten him and make him fall in line. That they aren't even pretending to do so tells you everything you need to know

Man I'm sad that TV and film acting standards have changed so much. You used to get these bombastic stage actors who could just chew the fuck out of the scenery like him and Alan Rickman and Tim Curry and now they're all dying off and everyone is trained for subtlety and nuance - those things have their place for sure but I'm gonna miss it

Say what you like about M. Bison's policy record, but I think he brings a much-needed conservative perspective to the New York Times editorial board.

This is true but I am referring more to today's discourse on the means-testing of the checks

yeah he's just the leiberman of this congress. there's always going to be a tool who plays that role anytime one team accidentally fucks up and gets enough people to actually do anything for the people.

Some Democrats do want to pass stuff like the $15 minimum wage. Cori Bush is not the same as Nancy Pelosi. Get enough people who actually want to do shit in power and you can actually do shit.

I agree that if the majority elected official were like Cori Bush, things would be a lot better for us.

However, a large amount of country will simply not elect somebody like her, because she is "too extreme", and/or there would be so much institutional resistance to block people like her.

Ten years ago it would have been impossible to imagine someone like Bernie Sanders getting anywhere close to the presidency. Last spring he had one of the most successful starts ever to a contested presidential primary. Things can change if we work on them.

So :vote: ? I think the problem is the party not the electorate. The teacher strike in WV was very popular. You could probably elect a communist that campaigns on sending coal company execs to the gulag, or at least a militant union member. Unfortunately this isn't ever an option.

My point is that a lot of change will likely come from outside of electoral politics (which is not to say they should be ignored).

I also think that "socialist" and "communist" have such negative conations to people that it would already be a turn off. This is not to mention that caring more about social issues and/or personal bigotries will take precedent.

Additionally, since Cori Bush was the original person named, I think that a lot of these people will refuse to support a fairly outspoken black woman who self-identifies as a socialist.

Just look at Mark Warner, the other guy they sent to “negotiate” the stimulus deal along manchin at the end of last year. They didn’t even want to bother lying about stimulus checks as did Biden (meanwhile trump proposed $2,000).
