Maybe I'm being too rosy, but the illusion of an economy will only stay afloat if no one tips the canoe. The Biden administration is pinched into a zugzwang, and I'm all here for it.

Democrats might not directly end the moratorium, but they'll likely do absolutely nothing to prevent others from ending it.

Midterms ads are going to be a joke. You didn't get a stimulus and you're homeless now because you didn't vote hard enough. Vote the hardest you've ever voted so we can get $200 checks out the door immediately* and bailout the landlords so they can start housing people again.

*within 18 months if your income was exactly $2,135, otherwise never

The eternal question of American politics: Do we hate poor people more than we love the economy?

(I bet you can guess how this one turns out.)

Also, if the dollar eats shit and there's runaway inflation, that "$6000" will be a lot easier to scrounge and pay off.

They would make up some bullshit reason to peg it to inflation since the month each bill is for.

Yeah I’m mad I didn’t stop paying rent in March of last year. I’m not paying until they rip it out of my bank account.

I might be wrong but wasn’t the eviction moratorium already ruled unconstitutional by a federal judge

Yeah but on a technicality. The CDC's version was, but the one passed by Congress is okay.

This is a good post. Between the curveball format and how I now know the word "zugzwang", this is the best post of the day.

Now that ww don't have downvotes, we should be able to upvote something twice, just for posts like this.

I put off moving out of my parents house for over a year because of the pandemic and despite saving up a bit of cash by not paying rent, I've paid a higher price in sanity.

I was already thinking it would be worth it to move out, even if only to get a break for a few months and get my head straight. Even if I burned through some of my unemployment money, it's better than letting my life stagnate any further.

Can I possibly benefit from the moratorium even as a new renter?

Like, could I pay the deposit and the first month's rent and then just stop paying rent while living there until this ends? Is there any way this could work? Would it work anywhere? Dare I dream of an apartment that isn't studio?

Someone smarter and better at adulting than I, please help. I will be eternally grateful.

Hmmmm this is interesting, there doesn't seem to be any easy way out of this for them.
