Jesus Christ man China isn’t the only culture that exists. “Asians eat dogs” is a very common stereotype of which you are surely well aware... maybe this shit was intended to just be straight up racist

This comm should be /c/omnivore. Vegans already have a comm they can post food in, /c/vegan.

I would get banned in a second and labelled a reactionary for doing this same sort of asinine post with a bunch of bloody, butchered animal stomachs with some dumbass low-tier shit like "lol eating my veggies, look at all the spruce and willows I'm eating!"

Veganism is cool, but its almost as if the lack of meat in the diet correlates with being a less-funny poster.

At least make shit funny if you're gonna be such a shitter

My point is that c/omnivore would still get constantly brigaded by vegans

If anyone posted trolling shit like this to /c/vegan about veganism being bad, they'd get banned. The same would apply to /c/omnivore. Rule 1: no vegan concern trolling. That's why a name change is needed. If the community is explicitly non-vegan, then vegans have no business being here, as opposed to a neutral sounding "food" community.

Making this /c/veganfood leaves no regular food community. And again, vegans already have their own community.

That could work but do you not think that could also attract the same kind of "le epic bacon" troll that are annoying to deal with?

I think it's also completely fair for vegans to post their meals in here as well. I think having it open to everyone is just fine.

Are you saying a /c/omnivore would attract people trolling by... posting bacon? That's not annoying.

I think it’s also completely fair for vegans to post their meals in here as well. I think having it open to everyone is just fine.

That would be fine if they didn't also make posts like this very one. The name /c/omnivore would even allow it. The only thing it inherently disallows is attacking people who eat different than you.

No one is going to "rub it in" that they eat meat to a community that is inherently accepting of eating meat.

If someone really wants to be an annoying troll, ban them like any other community.

There's no reaction they want. It's just someone huffing their own farts about how much smarter and better they are than other people.

I've literally seen people talk behind their vegan friend's backs for doing stuff like this because they find it annoying.

Like, yeah. What an own. Turns out thousands of years of culture where dogs are companions will be viewed differently compared to other animals that are used for food.

I really don't think this is appropriate for /c/food honestly. I'm fine with vegan recipes being posted or whatever but harassing people for what they eat is just completely wrong.

Edit - I want to add an edit to explain that I'm not openly hostile to vegans and have attempted to change my diet in the past. A lot of their arguments make sense to me and I'll eat least try a vegan diet again when I'm feeling better. But I know from experience that this line of argument just weirds people out.

I've honestly refrained from posting meals I've been proud of on here because I don't want people to get mad at me.

I do have vegan friends and I've always been helpful towards them and their diet. Even looked for places specifically to go and eat out with them because I know how shitty than can be for vegans and vegetarians.

My culture ate and used dogs until we were forced in living memory not to anymore, with no real alternative substitute emerging to replace them.

And when I asked a vegan on here for recipes and tips to become closer to eating vegan and they were like "idk google it"

So I'll get vegans shaming cultures like mine on here, as well as vegans who offer literally no help to become more like a vegan than not. I know how to butcher/cook/make clothes with dogs more than how to eat some veggies, and there isn't always support to balance that out and learn how to change my reflexes wrt eating meat vs veggie dishes.

Veganism is good, most vegans are good, some vegans are totally fucking insufferable and tone-deaf and they are their own worst enemy.

I get that I guess. I understand that vegans get sick of, let's face it, the same shitty arguments and weird "le epic bacon bros" and this is basically an outlet for that. But this is /c/food.

It literally says, in the top corner.

The place for all kinds of food discussion: from photos of dishes you’ve made to recipes or even advice on how to eat healthier and reduce animal products not only for your health but the health of our environment. Be respectful in threads regarding processed foods and animal products, shaming people does no good!

"If you change the words then it would mean something different"

Edit - I keep writing things and then feeling bad afterward lol

Honestly, if you are genuinely trying to change someone's mind then harassing people is literally the complete opposite way of doing things.

People are, on the whole, quite reactionary and protective of their lives. Telling someone that the way they think is wrong will often feel like an attack and, as good as it feels to dunk on someone, it will often make them stand by their beliefs even harder.

What do you think genuinely would help more people turn vegan? Statistics regarding emissions and water usage for farming, or calling someone who eats meat a bloodsucking carnist who consumes animal flesh?

That kind of stuff is all well and good in vegan spaces for having a laugh between people already in the culture but outside you have to be way more careful.

I turned vegan because people shouted at me that my behaviour was unethical and forced me to think. We do the same to people all the time. We dunk on chuds online because we're right, we know we're right, they're being ghouls. Omnivores just don't like realising they're doing the same with animal rights. I act like an asshole because I'm fucking angry. I'm so fucking angry that this is happening. And that people who are good people refuse to think this through and realise this. If you admit that animals have sentience, you can't morally justify eating them. And I'm not gonna coddle anyone until they realise that.

This line of reasoning expects that the reader has some empathy for dogs, then works forward off of that to point out their lack of empathy for other comparable beings.

Yes, the contention is that the claimed empathy is not actually empathy at all, it's fondness.

These people in theory like dogs, they like having them around, and petting them, and playing with them.

But to empathize with the pain an animal goes through when its life is taken is different. In that, there is no humane slaughter for an animal that wants to live.

if they’re eating their own pets, or runnin around stealing other people’s pets to eat. Cause that indicates a propensity for anti-social behavior, which is usually bad.

I think more of the "badness" of this comes from non-recognition of property rights, although I'm sure anti-social behavior is also a factor here.

        ?

I get the meme, but my ancestors did actually eat and use dogs in living memory and my grandma is very upset that we can't anymore since whites came up and colonized us. Some poor people still use dogs this way because there is no better alternative. It is actually a topic she brings up randomly out of the blue, that's how much it was central to our traditions. Traditions that have ended only because of colonizer moralizing and force.

I know its jokes and all but it still directly touches on my family and culture enough for this to not be cool in my eyes, but I am not trying to get users banned or anything, just showing that not all people love the bit.

Some people on here are too angry and blinded by their own terminally online worldviews to take disagreement in a healthy way.

            it is honesty.

She grew up eating them and making clothes from them until the era where white people came and killed most of them to make us sedentary and stop traditional living. This was roughly around WW2, and our region became critical for American army infrastructure.

Yeah I am not even super angry, just once again pointing out when privileged vegans miss the mark and end up punching at some marginalized indigenous/ethnic groups more than any real thing they should focus on.

This is just business as usual when being indigenous.

I think veganism is good, actually, but most vegans can be blinded to the reality of others and that blindness often pushes some of the most would-be supporters away (indigenous subsistence peoples with deep connections to lands and animals that are rapidly-changing due to industrial production and climate change)
