Got an idea from a website to substitute meat for apple slices when making sandwiches and it works like a dream. The sweetness actually goes very well with everything else.
No potential Crohn’s flare-ups, no afterlunch bloatedness and lethargy, no problems. Easy to make in a rush, too, though having time to heat it up via stove or panini press makes it all the better. Should also work with vegan cheese just fine, which I’ll try.
There really is a lot of variation if you want to avoid traditional meat sandwiches like Turkey/ham/etc. I wish I knew about it sooner.
If you like tuna salad sandwiches, try adding apples to one of those as well.
I'm growing detached from all kinds of meat except fish so that will be my next experiment. Surprised that I didn't think of that.
Oooh another great addition is radish sprouts, if you like a little bit of heat and crunch. I can't get enough of radish sprouts. Edit: I didn't think of it either, there was this deli that used to put sliced tart apples on their tuna salad sandwiches and they inspired me to do it at home.
I fucking love making a cold salad with chickpeas and onions and herbs, I am going to definitely try your blender technique the next time I buy a can of chickpeas, that rules! Thank you
I am extremely skeptical about this but I’ve heard stranger things. What kind of apples? Do you like, grill them? Or just raw apple slices?
I tried both honeycrisp and fuji apples. Both grilled and raw apples work, and all I can say is that it depends on what kind of crunch you want. Not too sure how it will work for "weird" ones like greens but one can try.
Lol that combination made me gag a bit; but after reading the explanation I’ll give it a try
I like all manner of sweet, so it was only natural that I liked it. That said, the succulent taste of the apple really goes with the melted cheese and onions.
Tried that and it works great. You could also just put raw onions slices in the sandwich and cook, for people who like more of a crunch.
There's really lots of variation with this. You can even add stuff like beets, mushrooms and spinach.
Talkin' mad shit for someone in backstab distance.
But yeah, sure. That's certainly viable.
Any of you ever tried a peanut butter and mayonnaise sandwich? I’ve never been the same since.
I can’t enjoy (American) Mayo unless I add copious amounts of lemon and/or Dijon. Wondering how that would go with PB...
